Did you See the Balloons Today?  This morning I awoke as I always do, just before 6am.  I enjoy the mornings before the whole house is awake.  It was my kids' first week back in school, so this was their first day in a while to sleep in.  I wasn't sure if they would though, because they knew the balloons would be rising.  By 6:45 I started to see it, the balloons rising to the west, from my back deck.   A little bit later I heard pitter patter.  I reminded my children to throw some shorts on with their PJ's and grab some flip flops and we snuck out of the house while mom was still sleeping.  Everything we saw, we walked to from our back door.  No cars involved. I didn't take a ton of photos, I was too busy with my kids enjoying the balloons rising amongst the mountains.  My kids just to...

A lot of people are worried about the recent slump in the housing market.  However, is it serious as it sometimes seems?  According to an article on The Denver Post's popular site YourHub.com, real estate in Highlands Ranch, Colorado is actually on the up-and-up.The article basically says that the housing market in Highlands Ranch is likely to turn toward the benefit of the sellers this fall.  That means that houses are going to be more likely to sell in a reasonable time frame, and final sale prices will be higher. An increasing in the Highlands Ranch housing market is good news for buyers, too.  Every little increase in the housing market is a reminder that a slump is a temporary, rather than a permanent, condition.  With the promise of a stronger housing market in Highlands Ranch, bu...

REAL ESTATE - Market Reports for Douglas County areas of Highlands Ranch & Lone Tree - Douglas County (North) Real Estate - JULY 2007 So the media has been screaming for months now, the real estate market is so bad.  How bad is it?  Well, In Highlands Ranch, not so bad.  It could be better, but the bottom line is homes are selling.  But the big line from me will continue to be, is all about price.  This is not the time "to see what you may be able to get."  This is not the time "to play with the market and see if you can get more."  If you are serious about selling your home, you need to listen to a real estate professional, take their advice and price your home right.  Homes that are priced right are selling, some rather quickly.  But the ones that are playing the game, are doing just ...

As many of you know, my wife helps me from time to time with various marketing & administrative duties.  She actually is the one responsible for my venturing into the world of blogging.  She made a suggestion a few weeks ago for me to provide local residents in Highlands Ranch information about preschools - as she remembers the days when she had to find just the right one for our own children - and in her own words, it ain't easy!  Since she knows so much about preschools here in Highlands Ranch, I asked her to guest author on my blog.  Her qualifications to write this article, Mom to 2 preschool Alums that over the years attended 3 different preschools.  So here she is..... Local Preschools in Highlands Ranchwritten by Laura Scheer, 2007 Here it is mid August.  The children that are in...

Weatherstone Neighborhood in Highlands Ranch, Still as Desireable as Ever For some time, Weatherstone has been one of the neighborhoods in Highlands Ranch that many of my buyers wish to look at.  And with good reason, it has a great location, many of the yards are quite large, it has its own pool and the homes are just gorgeous.  And as an added bonus, many of the lots have fantastic views.    Somewhat recently one of my home buyers closed on their transaction in Weatherstone.  This house is a dream home.  The yard is just beautiful and the house itself was spectacular.  On top of all the amenities, the children in Weatherstone will be starting in a brand new school this year, Stone Mountain Elementary.  There are currently 6 resale properties available in Weatherstone ranging from $455...

HIGHLANDS RANCH RECREATION - ITS ABUNDANT - HOW ABOUT SOME FISHING? Here is the pond that I walk to on the weekends and fish with my children. Its in Redstone Park. It is not a huge pond, but its just right for us.  It provides me with the place I take my kids to re-group.  They skip their way there, giggling and singing, or just telling me what they want to do all week-end.  But the best part is, we don't drive.   We walk from our back door. I love living in a neighborhood where I get to go to the park or pond with my kids with such ease and spontaneity.  If you are looking for a home in Highlands Ranch, and want to walk to Redstone pond too, here are some neighborhoods to consider.    Westridge Pointe - homes from the low $200,000's to the low to mid $400,000's Westridge Pointe - Spri...

Highlands Ranch Residents - Computer Recycling is Next Saturday at Town Center Take Some time this week out of your schedule to purge your home of old, unwanted electronics and computer parts.  The next community recycling event is next Saturday, August 18th at Town Center - Highlands Ranch Parkway and Dorchester Street.  The event begins at 8 am and lasts until 1pm  They take almost everything that is electronic - even pc monitors are accepted.  This is a great service provided to our community- as often it can be tedious and expensive to recycle these items.   The only thing there is a charge for are TV's.  Those are $15 each to recycle - everything else is free.

BUYING REAL ESTATE IN HIGHLANDS RANCH - YOU WANT A MOUNTAIN VIEW????  One of the most requested features that I receive from home buyers here in Highlands Ranch and other areas of the Denver Metro area, is to look at property with a view.  They are generally referring to a Mountain View - but there are times when open space suits them fine or a city lights view is desired.  But for the most part, its the Mountain View folks are after.  If this sounds like you, you are in luck - as there are plenty to go around right now.  Yes, it is true - the best homes that are priced accurately in Highlands Ranch are still selling quickly - so if you are wanting a great home, in a great location, in great condition at a great price -AND with a mountain view - you need to still be relatively quick.  B...

Don't Miss the "Rodeo in the Ranch" in August! If you have lived in Highlands Ranch any amount of time, you know that there are so many great activities to be enjoyed in this fabulous community.  And if you are just getting ready to move to Highlands Ranch, get your calendar out -because you are going to be filling it with all kinds of things going on. The next big event that my own family is looking forward to is the "Rodeo in the Ranch"  On August 18 & 19 the land across from Town Center on Highlands Ranch Parkway will be transformed into a rodeo for all.  The rodeo begins at 4pm each day, but the grounds open at 1:30 for all sorts of other activities.  From what I have read there will be pony & carriage rides and the oh-so-fun-to watch Mutton Bustin' showdown will begin then as well....

A Client that Does Everything Right and Values My Opinion Gets an A+ From Me.  I recently had an A+ Client.  I have to admit, at first meeting I was a bit skeptical.  I had the impression from phone conversations that it actually may be a difficult scenario.  I was so wrong.  This client was absolutely terrific.  Not only was this family nice and pleasant to work with, but they valued my professional opinion, clearly understood that my cost to them was valuable and carefully listened to everything I had to say.  I think so many REALTORS® nationwide are working with a lot of selling clients that want to over-price their homes, shop for the cheapest commission regardless of the service and question & reject all aspects of the selling process - that this transaction was a welcome and refre...

National Night Out, founded in 1984, is just around the corner.  On August 7th, the foundation encourages people to turn on their porch & garage lights, lock up their homes and get outside and meet your neighbors. In Douglas County, residents take the opportunity to arrange block parties and I have been to some in the past that have been great.  The driving philosophy behind the organization is, since you meet your neighbors, it helps prevent crime.  Perhaps you have recently relocated to Douglas County and want to meet your neighbors.  This is a perfect opportunity.  Not hearing of an event planned?  Plan one yourself.  It can be as simple as everyone bringing lawn chairs out front or more involved with food & refreshments organized.  Whatever you want.  The National Night Out web site...

Highlands Ranch events are always Great Fun!  A few weeks ago I blogged about the Highlands Ranch Carnival that was coming to town.  We did get to attend as planned, and although it was an overcast evening with a bit of wind and rain was threatening - typical to Colorado - the skies cleared and a fun evening was enjoyed by my family.  Yes, it was a small event.  BUt it was great fun.  My own children thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.  I love it when they enjoy the simple pleasures.      As you can see, these types of events, are some of the reasons I love to live and work in Highlands Ranch.    Some Communities & Neighborhoods in Highlands Ranch Back County Carlyle Park Eastridge Pointe Eastirdge Terrace Eastridge Village Falcon Hills Firelight Hawkes Pointe High Gate Hi...

Firelight Neighborhood in Highlands Ranch, Colorado  Firelight is a beautiful neighborhood that is located in Highlands Ranch, CO - Douglas County.  The Firelight area is south of Wildcat Reserve Parkway at Fairview Parkway and runs south and east - just past Griggs Road and just past Poston Parkway.   It is really a stunning neighborhood and is very desirable for many home buyers due to many factors.  Firelight does have some of the highest land in Highlands Ranch, allowing fantastic views of the front range, DTC area and downtown.  The zip codes for the homes in Firelight are 80126 and 80130.  The homes in Firelight were built mostly by Shea Homes, Joyce Homes, Beazer Homes and Richmond American Homes.  The Joyce Homes are pretty much confined to an area also known as Firelight ~ Fine...
