Dog Parks in Golden The City of Golden operates two dog parks: Tony Grampsas Dog Park and Ulysses Ballfields Dog Park ("Homer's Run"). The Tony Grampsas Dog Park is located at the north end of the ballfields at Tony Grampsas Memorial Sports Complex at 44th and Salvia. It is a 2.5 acre site 300 yards north of the main parking lot. It is a great place for dogs and people alike as large trees provide shade and there are shrubby areas for the dogs to explore. Carry your own water in if you pet needs refreshment. Although your pups may love it, be advised that during summer months there are areas where ground water comes to the surface making parts of the area muddy. Remember to keep your pet leashed in the park area until you reach the site. This facility is open park hours and please make...

Lubahn Trail near Golden This 2.5 mile trail loop is in the gully below and south of Castle Rock on South Table Mountain. The trail climbs about 400 feet to the base of the cliffs. There is access to the top of South Table from the south extent of the trail – please be advised that you are trespassing on private property if you go above the trail. Professor Jack Lubahn, a professor at Colorado School of Mines, built the trail in the 1960’s. He took beginning Geology students on the Mesa to show them examples of the stream deposits underlying the basalt caprock, and thus introduced them to Colorado geology. The trail has been extended to create a loop hike of moderate difficulty, and is an excellent one hour excursion. The trail receives an abundance of sun all year; take water in summe...

Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden The origins of quilting are shrouded in mystery, but historians do know quilting was part of the ancient world. Quilts have been found in ancient Egypt and Mongolia, and the Crusades brought quilting to England from the East. The tradition was brought to the America's with all the settlers and the quilting you know today was born. The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in downtown Golden was the dream of long-time Golden resident Eugenia Mitchell. She wanted her collection to be both seen by the public and preserved for the future.  Today, thanks to Eugenia and the hard work of  devoted volunteers and generous members, the museum has become a center for the local quilting community and a must-see destination on many a Colorado vacation. In 20 years, the m...

To the east, two flat-topped mesas, North and South Table mountains, separate Golden from Denver’s sprawling western suburbs, allowing it to retain its historic charm and small-town size. This trail is in the Jefferson County Open Space trail system, and is connected to the Windy Gap Trail and Park. The gulch gets its name from fast-moving wildfires that have occurred on the site. The trail climbs 2000' in 2.5 miles from Highway 6 to the summit at the Lookout Mountain Nature Center. North Table Mountain Homes North Table Mountain is home to some of the best views in Golden, Colorado. Located just to the northeast of the city of Golden, this neighborhood is near the North Table Mountain park. The towering, flat-topped mountain that lends it’s name to this neighborhood, is the result of three, separate lava flows. Over time, North Table Mountain developed into a beautiful area with grasslands, lichen rocks, and cliffs. While the park is inhabited by mountain sheep, mountain lions, deer, elk, prairie dogs, raptors, and even cliff-dwelling bees, the homes in this area are the loveliest combination of breath taking views and small town hospitality. Ranging from vintage charm to modern comfort, home buyers can expect a range from $250,000 to $2,000,000. Ranches are avail...

Interesting video about lending today versus lending practices in the past. Most would say lenders are tightening but "...the reality that banks are not tightening their lending standards; they are just following the standard practices that they were using years ago." Also, investors might be able to expand their portfolio in the future... if all works out. Denver Real estate Investments: www.housefitz.com Denver Income Properties: www.housfitz.com

A Brief History of Golden, Colorado Golden was established in the mid 19th century.  It served as a supply stop for gold miners heading in the mountain.  It is interesting to find out that the territorial legislature met there from 1862 to 1867. The Colorado Schools of Mines was established in 1870.  Coors was established in 1873 and has been a strong economic force in Golden ever since.  A small amount of gold in Clear Creek attracted Golden’s earliest settlers.    There are three historic districts in town.  The 12th street district is the oldest.

Fossil Trace Golf Course, Golden Colorado   Fossil Trace golf course has stunning views from every hole and is a heck of a challenging course to play.  I played this course earlier this year with my golfing group and it was a blast.   Their motto is “64 Million Years in the Making” because Triceratop foot prints and other fossils can be found adjacent to the 12th green.  The clubhouse has lots of information about the fossils and they even have a statue of the skeleton of a Triceratop.    The course was designed by James Engh and opened in 2003.  It is definitely a great day when you can spend the day on the golf course in Colorado and enjoy the views and prehistoric history that comes with this course.  I give this course 5 out of 5 stars.

The Bridges at Tucker Gulch Trail   I was in Golden, Colorado with my business partner Will Hamm today and came across a couple of cool walking bridges.    I have always loved bridges, not only for the practical purpose of getting to the other side, but also for a not so obvious meaning they have for me.   For me bridges make me think of peace and togetherness.  I always think about how two sides have decided to become one and therefore built a bridge.    I was taken by these pretty bridges today and thought I would share a few pictures with you.   Hopefully they make you feel calm and peaceful as they do me.

Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado We are lucky to have the Coors Brewing Company just about a half hour west of Denver at 13th and Ford Street in Golden.  Not only does Coors provide many jobs for the Colorado community but they also offer great tours of the facility.  The tours are free to the public Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The tour lasts about 40 minutes and gives the public an inside look at the brewing process.  The reward at the end of the tour is complimentary samples in the tasting room.  There is also a gift shop at the end for those who want a souvenir other than the free beer.  If you are visiting Colorado, the brewery is a great place to stop.  Of course, I prefer Hamm’s beer but I haven’t seen that since the 70’s.

I love it when it all FINALLY comes together. It all began last October, yes 8 months ago, when my client's mom contacted me from Houston TX, on behalf of her son who was located here in the Denver area, and was wanting to purchase a townhome near the foothills of Denver. It took an immense amount of patience for all parties involved, but my buyers (bless their hearts) and the seller (bless her's as well) hung in there for a very happy and successful end to the story. It almost fell apart after working on it for 5 months when the seller's 2nd mortgage company required her to contribute $1000 out of her pocket to successfully complete the short sale. The 1st mortage company had accepted the short sale terms, but we had to have the blessings of the 2nd mortgage company, as well, or the d...

What Coloradoans need to know about home loan modifications.   This is a great article with tools on how to prepare for the loan process and how to proceed once in the process. Also, this is a good clip about some locals who were successful in getting a loan mod done... with help. The process is long and tough but persistence is key.  9News has helped get loan mods through but it would be nice to know that a news channel doesn't have to get involved to know the process is working correctly.  They key is to remember NOT all homeowners will qualify and there are many ropes to trip you up. Here are some key points:  Submit complete paperwork.  Ask your bank what they will need and be sure to write your loan # and name on each page.  (There is a good list of required paperwork in the articl...
