After rapidly lowering for the last several weeks to make room for snow runoff, water levels in Dillon Reservoir in Summit County Colorado will begin to rise again this week.Denver Water announced Thursday that it's dropping outflow to the Lower Blue from 800 to 500 cubic feet per second.The main reason for the change is that the runoff from the South Platte drainage has been considerably less than projected. The snow seems to be melting at a slower pace than originaly anticipated. Denver water has reported that as a result it may have to bring more water through the Roberts tunnel than previously thought.The change will improve fly-fishing conditions in the Blue River below the dam and bring water levels up at the Frisco marina. I took these amazing photos of Lake Dillon after the first dusting of snow in Summit County.  In the first photo you can see the slopes at Keystone in the background.  The lake is at the center of Summit County and offers fantastic panoramic views from boat.  If you get a chance to visit in the summer -- rent a boat or take a ride in the water taxi.  You will be glad you did. 10/05/2007

The old Town of Dillon was originally where Lake Dillon is now.  In the 1960s the lake was built for water storage for the City of Denver.  The Denver Water Board owns all the water in it and it is fed through the Roberts Tunnel into the South Platte river, near Highway 285, not far from the town of Shawnee.  When the Dam was built, the old town had to be moved, and even today, the Town of Dillon is known as the "New Town of Dillon".  Many of the buildings were moved to new locations in other parts of the county; some to the New Town, but others went to other locations too.  The Giberson family ranch owned a lot of land in the area, and they lost a lot of it to both the lake and I-70.  Today, Giberson bay in Frisco lies where their land used to be, and The Villas at Prospect Point, a co... 05/28/2007
