These “orphans” are people moving with little if any family in the area. People move to the Fremont County area for a variety of reasons. But many buyers are drawn to the area for the climate and activities including hiking, Maybe they have family somewhere in the state but for the most part they are just drawn to the mountains.   When these “orphans” first come to town I try to give them the “tour” if I can. It's been almost exactly a year that I took my family out to the Royal Gorge Bridge Park. "Back then" we went because May was Military Apprecation month in Fremont County and we were able to get into the park for half price. This year -same thing: May 1-31 – Fremont County Appreciation Month and Military Appreciation Month All Fremont County residents with photo ID and active and retired military with military ID and their families will receive 50% off of the general admission fee or season passes (Not valid for family season passes). Over the River Project Posted on January 31, 2012 by Dena Stevens (719) 369.9087   There has been great debate and publicity surrounding the “Over The River” project. The world famous Cristo is planning on draping the Arkansas River with approx 6 miles of fabric. The debates include things like environmental concerns, traffic, employment, wildlife, local established business, new business and general bother to the city. Endorsements in favor of the Cristo “Over the River” project are coming in but the silence of those not endorsing the project is just about as loud. If the project is as successful as planners hope there will be approx 400,000 to 500,000 visitors to the Canon City and Royal Gorge area in a short two week period of time. The Royal Gorge is Colorado’s equivalent of the Grand Canyon.  Not only is it a breath taking sight, it also boasts the world's highest suspension bridge at a height of 1,053 feet.  The Arkansas River runs through the canyon.  The Royal Gorge, in Canon, is about 45 minutes to  the south-west of Colorado Springs.  This Saturday, October 1, 2011,  is the second annual  5K/10K race at the Royal Gorge .   June 19, 2011 Urgent Help Needed! A local Canon City family unexpected got custody of a 4 year little girl Monday night. The family is in crisis and needs help on many levels. Most urgent is clothing for the little girl. She told me no problem and I wasn't picky about what it looked like as long as my name was spelled correctly. This is what she came up with! In the mean time she's done a bunch more for friends.
