It is said that id children leave a shoe outside their door at night, the morning of December 6th, they would find coins or small candies as gifts. A very popular celebration for families is to have someone dress up as Saint Nicholas and visit the home. This is when the children and family "examine the conscience". Good behavior is awarded and bad behavior is admonished. This is seen as great way to get everyone on a good path early during Advent to prepare for the Christmas Holiday.
