There is something going on over in the Gopher Canyon area of Vista, CA that few people really know about...it's become an exclusive retreat to the rich and famous...or those just willing to give it all up for a little pampering!  I just happened to turn on a fairly new show the other night that I had recorded on my DVR, "Kirstie Alley's Big Life", which is a reality TV show that focuses on her home life and efforts to lose weight. In an all out effort to beat her weight loss buddy, who is also her handyman around her house, Kirstie takes her crew to an exclusive spa in Vista, CA...Cal-A-Vie Health Spa...located, you guessed it, off of Gopher Canyon Road on Spa Havens Way.  Kirstie is not the only fan of this inclusive spa, it is rumored to be a favorite get-away for a very famous talk ...

Art Sculptures Around Vista, CA - Travel on E. Vista Way, and through out the Main Street area through the Village and past the Water Park, and you will find a treasure of new art sculptures! You don't have to live in Vista to enjoy them.  Here are the ones that I have spotted so far: This bird of paradise sculpture is awesome!  You need to see it on a sunny day for the full effect and color.  Then my next favorite would have to be the kids playing with a kite.  This sits on the corner of Main and S. Santa Fe. A little hard to see in this picture, is a beautiful sculpture of birds with family in red below.  This picture really doesn't due the piece justice.  Even the one of the butterfly below, is more beautiful in real life. This isn't all there is, so be sure to enjoy a sunny afternoo...

The City of Vista, California is experiencing a backlash from it residents over the possibility of cutting 167 teaching positions in the local school district. The Vista Unified School District board, facing another year of declining revenue, approved a list of spending cuts Thursday and voted to send preliminary layoff notices to more than 167 teachers. Hundreds of teachers showed up at the school board meeting to let the trustees know how unhappy they are with the budget cuts. The district is facing an estimated shortfall of $18.3 million for the 2010-11 school year that starts July 1. Last month, the board preliminarily approved a budget-reduction plan that included laying off support staff members, eliminating some arts funding, cutting some administrative positions, reducing school...

The City of Vista is facing it own pseudo earthquake disaster in the form of 138 employees being discharged by the local Sam's club which is part of Wal-Mart. This has many employee's and local residents scratching their collective heads. Wal-Mart is citing that due to the lack of memberships it was necessary for this location to be closed.  In an effort to help the employees that are subject to dismal the City of Vista, has a One-Stop Career Center, an initiative the city launched last summer with San Diego Workforce Partnership Inc. A devastating blow has been dealt to the community of Vista, California,  yesterday it was announced that the Sam's Club off of Sycamore will be closing on 1/25/2010 or sooner. Many Sam shoppers headed over immediately to get numerous items that they normally shop for before the store closes.   Shoppers reported that many of the items that they shopped for were already sold out. Also, many Sam's members were upset about the fact that the Pharmacy would no longer be available and they would need to go else where to get their prescriptions filled. Per several of the employee's @ Sam's the reason for the closing is that Sam's club in Vista just did not have enough memberships   Two other locations remain open one is in Murrietta and the other is in San Diego, California. This would involve...

Local Vista, California Car Classic Burger Run was a super success. 585 Official entries and maybe an additional 40 parked around the show area showed up for the ninth Burger Run. The weather was perfect with temperatures around the mid 70's, and wall to wall people from Vista enjoying the day. Some of the highlights were: Kaiser Willys, Austin Healey, Studebaker, DeTomaso Laser, AMC, and Messerschmidt along with the better know Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Buick, Oldsmobile and Plymouth.   Best of Show: A raspberry color 1960 Ford Starliner owned by Roland Title of Fallbrook, California.   Best Orphan Car: The 1957 Messerschmidt Cabriolet owned by Dennis Jenison of Vista. The water color one-cylinder three wheel vehicle looked kind of like a rolling banana. Despite the size this vehicle can rea...

Residents that live on Crescent Drive and Avalon Drive can experience some interruption with their water per a recent letter that was mail to these residents, alerting them to be prepared for the possibility that their water could be at times not available.  This 8 inch water line that is being replaced was approved by the board of directors via the district's mainline replacement program. Vista Irrigation District is projecting the repairs to take from 12-16 weeks. The person to contact regarding this matter is Mr. Mark Saltz - Engineering Specialist 760-597-3157 or the construction manager Dan Damback at 760-597-3112.

Its not H1N1 or the Swine Flu ---- what is it ---"Sonic Drive In Fever" has hit the City of Vista, California. Cars are circling and circling around the corner location on Main Street in Vista, Ca., orange cones are up and  employees of Sonic are out directing traffic.  Who would have thought that this novelty restaurant would be such a hit. Many customers wait an hour and half or more to get a chance to order from the call box and have their food delivered by a waiter or waitress on roller skates. Sonic is running a special and it is::Two hamburgers, Tater tots and drinks for $7.99 plus taxes. Not a bad price --- which breaks down to about $4.00 a person. Hard to believe for this price you get to dine at one of the most popular restaurants in Vista, and get entertained.  Vista, Califor...

Don't get me wrong, I love living here in Vista, CA (been living here since 1984 now!)...they don't call it the World's Climatic Wonderland for nothing afterall...but I really and truly get a tad bit homesick every year about this time... And mothers know everything.  No really, they do.  My mom just sent this picture of a dirt road back home, Northern Vermont, to me on my iPhone.  Isn't it pretty?  Granted, I have tons more from previous years...and waxed leaves...the whole works that she sends me every year...some are artwork quality...this one was just out as she was driving around and thought of me. So, since I'm sharing what fall means to me (the start of the holidays, the smells of pumpkin spice and cinnamon, beautiful fall leaves, crisp cool evenings...), I thought I would open u...
