Took a road trip out to Ventura today - way cool! I FINALLY carved out a few hours to take some time off and we went to Ventura today. I love walking the shops and restaurants on Main St. First thing I did was to visit the We Olive store and re-fill my infused oils that I use for cooking. For those of you who don't know about We Olive, it is a specialty store chain that sells everything related to olives and sells specialty olive oils that you can't really find anywhere else. They sell oils in bulk or in pre-packaged bottles. If you bring your bottles in for re-fill it's cheaper. I re-filled my supplies of Meyer Lemon infused olive oil, and Blood Orange infused olive oil. I also tried something new this time and bought two small bottles of white wine/peach balsamic vinegar, and blueberr...

Swimming pool renovations and remodels are on the rise in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, Southern California. Many of these swimming pool renovations and swimming pool remodels are being done to properties that were previously short sales and bank repossessions.   SoCal Pool Builders has been receiving an above average number of requests for swimming pool renovations and remodels in the past six months. Owner, Kevin Clayton, stated that he believes it is partly due to the number of vacant and abandoned homes because of the high number of short sales and bank repossessions on the market. He has also seen the swimming pool equipment taken by the distressed owners desperate to raise cash or possibly it has been taken by vandals. They remove the swimming pool pumps, swimming pool filters...

You haven't experienced the wonderfulness that is living in Southern California if you have never gone whale watching in Ventura.  From now until April 17, 2011, Pacific Gray Whales travel from the warm waters of Mexico, where they breed and give birth, pass through the Santa Barbara Channel and continue on to the colder waters of the Bering Sea.  That's when it's peak season to view these magnificent creatures for yourself. Island Packers offers wonderful whale watching cruises that depart from either the Ventura Harbor (1691 Spinnaker Dr #105B, Ventura) or Channel Islands Harbor (3600 S Harbor Blvd, Oxnard) until the middle of April.  These cruises can take anywhere from 3 to 3 1/2 hours total.  The departure schedule varies from day to day.  They aren't always available from both har...

There it was..... staring at us like it was taunting us....  a banana-yellow, velvet sofa.... Yet, somehow..... some way.... we needed to "make it work". You see, these sellers were a brother and sister team selling their parents home who had recently passed. They had already spent a substantial amount of money repainting the entire home which involved removal of wallpaper from EVERY room of the home as well as all new flooring through out. Once it came time to actually list the home, they didn't have the funding to be able to bring in new furniture to Stage the home, so my Company was called in to Stage this Ventura Marina Home, using what they had.    What they did have was an AMAZING water front marina home in Ventura with a direct access, deep water dock and one of the most amazing ...

The Cash for Appliances Program has been extended in Ventura County.  Since only about one-third of the federal money designated for the program has been handed out so far, the State of California has decided to extend and expand the Cash for Appliances Program to allow rebates for even more energy-efficient appliance purchases.  The program is meant to help offset the costs of and encourage people to replace their old energy-guzzling appliances with new, more energy-efficient models to help save electrical costs and reduce energy waste. The original program that began April 22, 2010, allowed Ventura County residents to receive a $200 rebate for a new refrigerator purchase, $100 rebate for a new clothes dryer purchase and $50 for a new room air conditioner purchase.  Under the new, expa...

Ventura Keys Waterway Many of you have probably never heard of the Ventua Keys and that's okay. Many Californians never have either. In fact, there are many people in the neighboring city of Santa Barbara who have yet to discover the Keys, as locals call the neighborhood. So what is so special about the Keys. Well, the water for one thing. There are three channels which lead into the Pacific Ocean. Imagine your sailboat or motor boat in your own backyard. Kayaking and paddle boards, or little electric boats to simply cruise up and down the channels. The neighborhood has 300 homes on the water with their own boat dock, another 300+ homes not on the water and with normal backyards, and approximately 150 duplexes. All the homes within short walking distance to the beach. The ideal city fo...
