There are a lot of reports out there that the real estate has bottomed.The following chart provides a great visual of where the market is now. The information is provided by Chart of the Day. For some perspective on the all-important US real estate market, today's chart illustrates the inflation-adjusted median price of a single-family home in the United States over the past 42 years. Not only did housing prices increase at a rapid rate from 1991 to 2005, the rate at which housing prices increased -- increased. All those gains were given back during the following 6.5 years. Over the past five months, however, the median price of a single-family home has surged by over 20% -- the biggest five-month gain on record (the data goes back to 1968). Every day I am asked if now is a good time to buy real estate. My question to you would be, after viewing the above table do you see a better time? The question is if prices will go lower, flatten out or start to rise. The answer is yes to all. It depends where you are. The lower price ranges in Phoenix are up 28% this year, the middle range is up a little and the high end is down. This can be said about many markets. Reno is on fire with less than 2 months inventory, Las Vegas entry level has gone up, Sacramento inventory is very low. Some other markets or specific neighborhoods are still going down. There will only be one person buy at the bottom and you will not know it was the bottom until it has already started up. So, how lucky are you? The first quarter stats are out and the Truckee and Lake Tahoe real estate markets look like a very good opportunity for buyers compared to other resort areas. Skate Ski at Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center I introduced my best friend, Dot Ferneyhough, to cross country skiing many years ago and now she is an avid cross country skier. Every winter you can find Dot and her husband Dave ski skating at Tahoe Donner Cross Country ski center almost every day. Today Dot is my guest blogger talking about her love for this sport.
