May 26, 2010 Memorial Day Weekend in Tahoe In Tahoe we have been experiencing one of the wettest springs I can remember as it has been raining and snowing every week with temps that feel more like Autumn.  With over 550 inches(45.8 feet!) of snow this winter the mountains are still packed with snow which should lead to the lake rising 3 to 5 feet, a reduced fire season, and one of the best wildflower seasons we have seen in years.  I have been watching the weather like a hawk and this weekend we should see temps return to normal just in time for the holiday weekend!     Memorial Day weekend in Tahoe signals the start of the summer as people start to launch their boats, the restaurants have deck opening parties, and the summer events and music schedules fill up.  This weekend will be ...

Excellent news from Lake Tahoe, Trinkie Watson, Luxury Ambassador Spokesperson Tahoe City, CA.: Thanks Donna.  BTW, here are the first Q stats for Tahoe....not sure you have them.  We had 2 over $11 million sales in IV close in the last couple of weeks, a property listed at $16.6 on the west shore went into escrow (parcel with 4 lots, 4 old/older cabins) and a west shore lakefront listed at $5,450,000 sold to a neighbor on the money.....so these are the first sales over $5 million in quite some time.  There was a $12 - $13 million land sale in Crystal Bay in Feb, way down from asking of $24 million.  Showings seem to be increasing, so we are hopeful for new traction in the upper end this year.   Best, Trinkie Information gathered from Incline Village, Tahoe Sierra, Sierra Nevada, NNRML...

The Dam Cafe in Tahoe City, North Lake Tahoe, California is a fun place to stop by for breakfast, lunch or just a dam cup of coffee. Some mornings on my way to work I stop by The Dam Cafe for a cup of drip coffee or an illy espresso. I normally see several friends as I walk in the door, this is a true locals place to gather. I have a favorite table back in a corner that has a view of the dam. From here I can watch the early morning tourists walking by.     The Dam Cafe menu includes a variety of dam sandwiches, burritos, smoothies and more. My favorite item on the menu by far, is the Bacon Burley Burrito, it is a flour tortilla stuffed with bacon, cheese, rice, beans, pico de gallo, sour cream and avocado. If you have one of these bad boys for lunch you might as well forget dinner. If y...

by Phoebe Chongchua realtytimes.com   Fannie Mae wants to sell its housing inventory that it acquired through foreclosures. The properties are listed for sale on HomePath.com. To do so, it's offering buyers incentives for those properties. The new incentives recently began and are eligible for buyers who will live in the home. According to Fannie Mae, the offers must be accepted on or after January 28, 2010 and they have to close before May first for properties on its site: Homepath.com So what's the special offer? Buyers can receive up to 3.5 percent of the sales price for closing costs or the purchase of a new Whirlpool appliance or even a combination of the two. There are more incentives. Are you still following your New Year's resolutions? If not, spring is a great time to let go of bad habits and start fresh. By Tracey C. Velt | March 2010 1. Exercise.Feeling stressed? When nothing seems to be going right, try to squeeze in a workout, suggests sales coach John D. Mayfield, ABR®, CRB, of Farmington, Mo. Going for a walk, run, bike ride, swim, or other exercise is an excellent way to feel better. Exercise can improve your mood because it releases endorphins in your brain, a hormone that can even trigger feelings of euphoria, he says. Physical exertion can add a wide variety of benefits to your life and is excellent for relieving stress. Of course, be sure to consult your physician before starting any major new exercise program. 2. Read and study more.Become better educat...

Free Skiing lesson at North Lake Tahoe in the Highlands. Today I decided to take the day off and take advantage of a Free Skiing lesson at North Lake Tahoe Ski Area in the Highlands. The weather was warm, so the skiing was good but not great.       The lesson was designed to learn cross country skate skiing for The Great Ski Race on March 7, 2010. This annual race is a fund raising event for the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue. The race and the Free Skiing lesson are held at the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area in the Highlands near Tahoe City. The instructors are from Rossignol and they come fully equipped with skis, poles and boots for the students. The free skiing lesson started out with learning the basics, such as adjusting pole straps, balancing techniques, and body mechanics. The stud...

Great Pizza Place at Lake Tahoe in Tahoe City, CA. Last Wednesday it was my turn to buy tacos for the office. Along with great pizza, Front Street Station Pizza Company makes incredible carne asada tacos, and they have a three taco special on Wednesdays. The tortillas are heated in the pizza oven so it only takes minutes to have your tacos sitting in front of you.         They are filled with carne asada, cilantro, onions and cheese on request. They have a variety of sauces that range from mild to extremely hot. The tacos are nicely packaged in a pizza box, this makes it easy to transport them to my real estate office and keep them hot. If I had choosen to, they do accept call in orders.   Last summer when we went for tacos; we ate them at the restaurant.  They have a deck out ba...

Things to do in Tahoe City at Lake Tahoe, California. Just by taking a walk through town you will see a variety of restaurants, shops, and breathtaking views of the lake. Tahoe City is located in the Sierra Mountain range at about 6,200 feet in elevation and approximately a 200 Mile drive from San Francisco.             Besides the restaurants and shops Tahoe City has a golf course, museums, park, movie theater, real estate offices, it’s own dam and more.

The Tahoe City Golf Course is a nine hole, truly a user friendly course, great for the whole family. They have a small pro-shop and golf carts for an additional charge. The restaurant and bar is a local favorite with sit down and walk-up dining. Cross country skiing is available during winter months.                               ...

Tahoe cross country ski area in Tahoe City web site     is a great place to enjoy the outdoors. The ski area offers miles of groomed trails for both skating and striding. The trails are well marked for different levels of skiing from the beginner to the expert. Ski with your dog! Dogs are permitted Monday through Friday (non-holidays) 8:30am to 5:00pm and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm during weekends and from December 24 through January 3. Dogs are permitted on two designated trails only.       Lakeview is one of my favorite trails, it’s quite a workout to the top but the views are well worth it. I have not been to the top of Lakeview this year, but I do plan to make the climb in a couple weeks, at which time I will post pictures of the view from the top on my website.       If cross country skiin...

Low interest rates, favorable home pricing, and first time buyer incentives have helped dramatically increase the number of sales in Truckee and on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in 2009.  Although the number of sales has increased in these desirable resort communities the average and median home prices continued to slide in 2009.  This has created amazing opportunities for buyers but is a bit disheartening for anyone looking to sell in the current market.Within the last 12 months in the greater Truckee real estate markets we have seen the average sales price slide down 17% to $641.8K and the median home price slid 15% to $525K!  This is a sharp decrease in home prices and has spurred many buyers that have been sitting on the sideline to jump into the very desirable Truckee real estate m...

I am a new member of Active Rain and I am just scratching the surface of the available resources. I spent about thirty years on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in Tahoe City, the west shore, and on the Truckee River. I was just checking out AR members in that area and it brought back fond memories of shoveling snow, dealing with the short building season, and seeing snow every month of the year except August. Living in the desert of Arizona now, I can truely say, I don't miss the cold. I do miss the beauty of Tahoe

Today its sunny and seventy. You can feel it in the air but I'm scared to say the "s" word out loud. Last night we slept with the windows open and this morning the air was sweet with the scents of....but I'm too guarded to let myself relax. I was ready to do some staining today and the guy in the paint dept. said, "oh, no-not yet, remember last year?" Memorial day weekend its snowed 4" inches....ahhh, living in the mtns. What do I do? Can't plant flowers, can't paint, but I'm puttin' the snowblower away, I've got the snow tires off and the suspension on low. I've pulled the plug on the heater and turned off the gas-if it gets cold-we're makin' a fire. All the snow is melted around the house so I've got the wheel barrel out and the shovel, I put my back into it yesterday and I woke up so...
