Grisly discovery shocks exclusive San Marino: Pool Excavation Reveals Human Bones Neighbors recall mysterious goings-on in the home and a young couple that vanished nine years ago. By Eric Malnic, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer May 7, 1994 The person they found, whoever he or she was, had the misfortune to be the apparent victim of a murder. The murderer, whoever he or she was, had the poor taste to bury the dismembered body in a back yard in the exclusive city of San Marino.Police were not saying much Friday, other than to confirm that the trisected skeletal remains had been unearthed during a swimming pool excavation behind a spacious home on Lorain Road.  Man held in Boston a 'person of... On the other hand, the neighbors were talking a lot--about the young man and woman who had been...

Can the housing market go down another 10% or 20%? "Sure," grumbled Robert Toll, CEO of Toll Bros. The head of the nation’s biggest homebuilder had reason to be grumpy . . . Toll Bros. just reported its third straight losing quarter. Revenue has fallen 30% from this time last year. Toll went on to say the housing market was in a “depression” and that recovery could be up to three years away. “I believe the industry will continue to face rising pressures,” echoed D.R. Horton CEO Don Tomnitz, “for certainly the next 12-18 months. 2010 will be the earliest we get a more solid homebuilding environment." So how did San Marino do in March of 2008 compared to the national decline of 14% for the month of March, and the home builders' stresses? Well, any time you see such a dramatic reduction in...

My last post identified the price point for luxury homes and estates for sale in San Marino, California. It is clear that the top 10% of the San Marino Real Estate market is for homes costing $3,000,000 and above.  I wanted to take a look at the 13 luxury homes in San Marino that were sold in 2007 and see what affluent San Marino home buyers expected to get for their money. Below is a list of amenities and features of almost all the San Marino luxury homes reviewed: LOCATION:  All of these San Marino estates were North of Huntington Drive in close proximity to the Huntington Library or Lacy Park. LARGE LOTS:  Affluent San Marino luxury home buyers can expect at least 1/2 an acre of land.  A lot of these homes had an acre of land or more.  FIVE is an IMPORTANT NUMBER: Almost all these Sa...

Come on out and support our San Marino Firefighters this Saturday at Lacy Park in San Marino.  This annual breakfast has become one of my familys favorite traditions.   Herere some reasons to be there: The San Marino firemen are majorly cute! Its for a good cause. Its only $5 for a great breakfast made by the cutest firefighters in San Marino.  Oops, did I say they were cute again?  :-) There are activities for the kids.  In the previous years, we had hot air balloon rides, firetruck rides, raffles, etc. Pancakes are always yummy and somehow they taste so much better at Lacy Park.  All that fresh air! You have a chance to see and encourage (words of wisdom are always welcome at that age!)cub and boy scouts who usually camp at the park the night before.  Proceeds benefit Alisa Ann Ruch B...

I hear that question all the time.  What does the question really mean? Do you truly care about what's going on in Phoenix, if you live in Pasadena, CA?  Do you care about how the market is doing in Pasadena, if you live in San Marino, CA?As a real estate broker, the answer is yes... I care.  As a seller or buyer, I couldn't care less.I just sold my house.  It is located in San Gabriel, but has San Marino schools.  The first thing I did when I was thinking of selling my house, is to learn what was going on on my street.  How many homes were on the market now?  Who will be my competition?I wanted to know which 7 to 10 homes will I be competing against.  I got into the car and visited all the homes.  I knew how much they were priced at, how long they've been on the market and what kind of...

(Moving Mountains Design Home Staging, Pasadena, CA)
Moving Mountains Design was recently hired to stage a $5.78 million home in San Marino, CA. The home, built in 1926, was design by Roland E. Coate, a noted California architect. This Spanish Colonial home had not been on the market since the early 1950's. It did not appear that any upgrades had been undertaken during that time. Showing buyers the true potential of this home was not easy, but we were up to the task. The seller accepted one of multiple offers 10 days after the home was staged. Escrow is set to close next week. Escrow has closed, and the sale was recorded by the Tax Assessor - $5.78 million SP%LP=100%!                            The rooms were huge. The Persian rug in the living room was 12'x15' and there was still a very generous border of hardwood surrounding it. Here is...

I don't know what people expect! Now is the time to buy!  Especially and specifically in the good areas like San Marino, Arcadia, and Pasadena.  These areas are NOT going to see the drop in price that other less affluent areas are seeing.  They have seen a pause in the increase, but these areas will continue to go up in value because everyone wants to be in a desirable neighborhood with good schools.  So what are they waiting for?
