Wow, That's a RED Building!! I have been showing a fair nuber of properties in some popular urban neighborhoods in San Diego - Normal Heights, North Park, University Heights - and have enjoy seeing the different architecture, both residential and commercial.  We've toured a bunch of craftsman style bungalows as well as several homes with more of a spanish influence. Not only are they smaller than many homes out in Carlsbad, they are older...built in the 1920s and 1930s. I was in town again today to show a property and drove by this bright red building on one of tghe main roads, and had to grab a photo.

As of September 21, a new federal law allows you to freeze and unlock your credit report for free at all three credit agencies. This could have cost up to $19 per agency every time you locked or unlocked your credit report. A freeze prevents lenders from opening your credit report. This will stop fraudsters from opening any type of credit in your name. This action from the federal government comes a year after the Equifax data breach that exposed 148 million Americans personal information. The law also extends credit alerts from 90 days to one year. You have to freeze all three agencies to make the freeze effective. The three are Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. You can do it on the phone, in writing or on their websites. You need to select the freeze option for the website. Most imp...

As a loan officer, I always ask Realtors what type of database management are they doing. I hear I mail out a Christmas card or a have them on an email program. Some even have their database on a monthly postcard system. (but not many)The ideal program is a postcard a month and a phone call quarterly. I call the phone call the intelligence gather opportunity. This way you can stay ahead of your people needs. You want to be finding out who has a child on the way and needs another bedroom, who has a job transfer coming up or the unfortunate divorce. With this information, you can be ahead of the game and start helping out your buyers and seller early on. This will normally prevent them from calling the neighborhood farmer or go to an open house and establish another relationship. Then y...

Wordless Wednesday: The Lady in the Green Dress  We spent several hours at Balboa Park on Saturday as part of our anniversary celebration. Some of that time was at a wonderful and intimate art musuem, the Timken Musuem (free admission) that features a collection of European masters, American 19th Century art, and Russian icons in 6 rooms.   Part of the reason for going was to see "Leela - Portrait of a Woman in a Green Dress,"a modernist installation by local artist Bhavna Mehta, inspired by the 1530 painting by Bartolomeo Veneto, "Portrait of a Lady in a Green Dress" also in the museum (see photo at bottom). This almost-lifesize "sculpture" is all paper, folded and cut. Truly amazing and beautifully colorful.

Smiling on a Saturday: Balboa Park Carousel  We spent several hours yesterday in wonderful Balboa Park in San Diego to celebrate our anniversary. We stumbled upon this 1910 carousel on our way to the rose garden and had to stop and watch, plus take a video and photos for the grandkids!  I understand the murals are all originals, and all but 2 of the animals (I think ALL the seats - the stationary ones and those that moved up and down according to my research) are original. It was great fun to see the riders - young kids with parents, older kids - all whirling around while the music played. It's been decades since I've ridden one of these...how about you?

Andrea Bocelli in San Diego Tonight A long-awaited Christmas gift is finally getting used tonight. Waaay back in early December I bought tickets to see Andrea Bocelli in San Diego at the Valley View Casino Center as a holiday gift for my wife.  That concert is finally here...it's been a long wait and we are both pumped about seeing this world famous singer in person. I remember seeing him in a live concert from Italy on TV a number of years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed his music ever since. We've not been to the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, a popular concert venue with a wide range of entertainment. Of course it's not like seeing him live in Italy. Can't wait!!

What should I be looking for in my first investment property?    I have people always asking me how can I get into the Real Estate Market and make a good investment. Some people listen, others say they don't want to be a property manager, and others are just scared to make the move.    I have been there and understand these fears and concerns. This is how I did it 20 years ago and its still the same today. I worked a regular full time job so I could qualify for a loan. I focused on Duplexes, or Two Houses on One Lot, that way when there was a vacancy I would still collect rent on one of the units and still pay my payment with the other units income,  which eased the financial burden.     *The benefits of buying a 1-4 unit property*Financing is the key to being profitable. On a 1-4 unit ...

I'm sure you've heard this before, but it's true. I never realized that a book about friendship could change the way I approach my life and my relationships. And this is important why? Well, because every business is based on the kind of relationships we build. No one wants to be "sold" and not many of us want to purchase anything of importance from someone we don't know, trust or feel comfortable with.Just to clarify, the book "Seeking Girlfriend for Lonesome George" was originally written as a children's story, but after being translated into English it appeals more to adults, as well as the young at heart. It also leaves the reader with a wonderful lifelong message about hope and friendship. The illustrations were so wonderfully crafted; they vividly made the story quite enchanting.S...

I Have Sock Problems You’re probably thinking the issue is about unmatched pairs…one getting lost in the dryer as they do…or holes in the heels or toes, or no clean socks to wear.  That’s not it at all. I have a large collection of colorful socks that started about 5 years ago with gifts from my older daughter at Christmas, and the collection has grown, year by year.  Some are somewhat understated, while others are quite colorful, adding an intriguing contrast to jeans or dress slacks. So here are my Sock Problems. My wife was doing some Human Resources consulting for a well-known ad agency in San Diego a few years ago. One of the 3 principles recently started a company called Sock Problems. Sock Problems is a clever, San Diego-based company founded in 2017 that raises money for various...

10th Annual Brasil Jazz FestaSunday March 4th in San Diego I can’t wait to attend the 10th Annual Brasil Jazz Festa taking place at Dizzy’s in San Diego, tomorrow, March 4, beginning at 6 pm. We went to the first 4 or 5 of these festivals when they were held in Encinitas, but have only been to one of them downtown and it’s been a few years.  The music was always wonderful, and with a relatively small audience in an intimate venue, it’s a special treat, in particular if you are a Brazlian music. We have gotten to know some of the musicians/singers who are regulars and it’s been fun to see them at other performances around the city over the years as they have grown in popularity.  We have been following the Danny Green Trio now for 10 years, and have been to multiple concerts including a ...
