I don’t think you are getting the full support that you need here!       A client needed to get an idea as to the extent of dry rot repair that existed in a home that was being listed for sale in Sacramento; it’s hard to not notice other things while looking for rotted wood on the exterior of a home. There had been some wood that had been replaced in the past; this post was replaced and didn’t show any signs to moisture damage. However, I don’t think it was giving the client the support that they think that they should be getting. The wood does not even reach the full height, it is fastener with a bracket on one side. From the ground this would be hard to detect. I happened to be up on a ladder poking around at a soft piece of siding and looked over to see this gap. Surely the origi...

How did you know there was dry rot behind the window trim?   I guess when you do enough dry rot repair work in Sacramento, you get the benefit of decades of experience in finding dry rotted wood in some common places. The areas of dry rot, because of the nature of construction and the lack of precautions to prevent it, are somewhat predictable in homes that are 20 or more years old.     This photo is an example of where the siding is rotted behind the window trim, though there were no sides of decay visible before removing the wood trim. If you are concerned about having wood rot in Sacramento, it may be beneficial to have the building looked at by a contractor with experience in dry rot repair in your local area.

Why Is There Dry Rot At The Entry Door?   It’s the first impression of your place, right there at the front door. Whether you are selling or not, you want your place to look good to anyone who comes to visit. Just think of them walking up to your door and ringing the doorbell and their eyes are wandering. Then they see it, that dry rotted wood around the door. Sure you wanted to get it taken care of but you did not have time nor did you look for someone to do the work. It’s not really all that big of a deal but there are some issues that will arise because of this. Moisture can get into the building when the moisture occurs. If this happens now you may be getting water damage inside the home which will only add to your problem. There is a good chance that the air will flow through the...

A Sure Sign That You Did Not Fix The Water Leak in Sacramento   I get an opportunity to see plenty of water related damages as a general contractor in the Sacramento area. Damages caused by water can come in many forms and the source of the water varies. Much of the work that I see is after the repair has been done by others.   Occasionally, I am asked to clean up the repair area long after the repair has been completed by others.   When looking at a cleanup project in Sacramento today, there were a few signs that maybe the water leak had not been done correctly. It’s not rocket science to understand, you just need some common sense to see that the leak is not fixed.   A repaired water leak will not continue to stain the drywall. A water leak that is fixed does not need a stain sealer...

Yes, I realize that it is not leaking, but you may want to address the problem now.   We come across items of potential problems while working on homes and apartments in Sacramento. What we see doesn’t have to be repaired by us, we are there for a different reason. It’s not that we are looking to squeeze out a few more dollars from you, we just know the signs. Sometimes it just makes sense to fix these other issues while we are there. We came across this pipe that is showing signs of corrosion while replacing a water heater. The pipe was not far from the water heater and the water was being shut down anyway; it would be a perfect time to clean things up. The owners weren’t sure about whether or not the work was necessary and the water wasn’t leaking at the time. While they stewed over...

Bugs bugging you?   As the weather gets warmer in the Sacramento Valley, the bugs start coming out in full force. Sure there are the cute little harmless ladybugs and such; but there is many that need special attention.   The wasps, hornets and yellow jackets are beginning to get out and about. Be prepared for them. When working around the house or apartment, have a good, full bottle of spray, many of these fighters attack in swarms so you have to be ready.   Do you have protection?

Installing Wall Cabinets in Sacramento is Easier with the Right Tools.   One of the cool things about being a general contractor in Sacramento is that I get to use some tools and equipment that make the job easier. For installing wall cabinets, this cabinet lift makes cabinet installation so much easier, quicker, and can be done with one worker. Imagine placing a wall cabinet on a small square pad and wheeling it over into the space, easily cranking the cabinet up and locking the lift. Now you have two hands to grab a level, a couple of screws, and a drill. The wall unit can be adjusted without the risk of slipping or shifting. After it is in place, wheel over to get the next cabinet box; quick and easy. Of course you could probably rent or borrow one of these to do it yourself, or hi...
