I was recently at the Fall Home Show here in Redding. We had a booth and were out talking to people here in Shasta County about HUD homes and the benefits that are offered in FHA financing. I took a little break to walk around and talk with some of the other booth exhibitors and I met a client of mine. She was there for her business and we were delighted to see each other. It's been going on over two years that we did a short sale on her home. She was sharing with me that they are just about ready to buy again and how excited they were. We talked about how much things have changed and that when they do buy, it will be with the intention to pay off the home and raise their family and eventually retire in the home. Our conversation brought several general observations forward for me. The ...

I remember a post over a year ago by Missy Caulk about Cloud Computing. The practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server... She's a very smart lady and she is also generous and kind. My response was one of skepticism and concern. She was good with me as she always is. I am signing up for backup service that is "IN THE CLOUD" and in sharing that fact, a good friend raised much the same concern that I did in my comments with Missy's post, so long ago. In fact, it was so similar that I had to laugh. I remember Missy sharing with me that whether I realized it or not, I was already operating in many capacities within "THE CLOUD". AR is in the Cloud. How many of you have backed up your posts here in the RAI...

The Christmas Tree has long been a tradition for the Holidays as we celebrate a month of festive parties and gathering. The Christmas tree is a decorated evergreen coniferous tree, real or artificial and a tradition associated with the celebration of Christmas. The Christmas tree is traditionally brought into the home and decorated with Christmas lights (originally candles), ornaments, garlands, tinsel and candy canes during the days around Christmas. An angel or star is placed at the top of the tree, representing the host of nagels or the Star of Bethelehme from the Nativity. Celebrating with you today are photos of lovely Christmas Trees and the decorations for sale at the Cookie Jar. It's my favorite place for gift and cookies. As the Holiday Season move forward, I am inspired to do something of heart and spirit. During the Season of Giving, it is only natural to reflect back and to step up to things tht need doing. I am grateful for the inspiration to do this at this time. I wrote my first post about the Community Work and the Outreach Program that goes on with the Good News Rescue Mission and you can read it here. This dedicated Community Resource is a beautiful effort by many in our community to extend a helping hand to those facing hardship and the crisis of being homeless. Offering hot meals, warm clothing and shelter, the work at the Good News Rescue Mission is all about redemption and rehabilitation for those needing help. The holiday season while beautiful is also cold for those without. It is a Season...

Redding CA - December's Season of Celebration & Sharing - The Cookie Jar--we have a most special store here in Redding, California. It is "The Cookie Jar". Two beautiful ladies decided to open a "made from scratch and baked fresh each day" cookie store. It has to have been about 4 or 5 years ago. Well at first there was just cookies and then next thing there were plates for the cookies and gift wrapping. Then there were Cookie Jars. Well the story goes on to be one of a very successful business built around the goodness of Cookies. Sounds good to me. They offer so many fine gift ideas around Cookies. The Cookies themselves are a fine gift for anyone. We used to be located next door to the "Cookie Jar" and all my closing gifts were ordered from the Cookie Jar. I would buy a dozen cookies...

The Holidays brings a special time for me in my business and life and that is to touch base with those people that I have done business with during the year and in past years. It is a particularly fun time for me and like many things I do in life, I make it fun for myself. I do reach out and touch my clients, family and friends throughout the year but the Holidays bring a special time when I have the opportunity to add a personal touch from the Gendrons and to communicate a very personal note of care and good wishes. It's a mini-project for me and I work at it for several months in gathing all the little things together for the activity of handwriting my Holiday cards and getting them mailed. I first shop for cards and I always end up spending more money that I plan but alas....I want t...

So many changes in my life and so much growth in the last four years. I first joined ActiveRain in September of 2007. I had been meaning to look into ActiveRain and this blogging thing my Bay Area friends kept talking about and mentioning but time was always short and things always delayed. One day, I found myself joining and setting up my profile on ActiveRain. I am rather a strong personality and I typically do things in an very committed way. It is an all or nothing proposition for me as an individual in most things I choose to do and ActiveRain was no different. I read the Guidelines and joined groups and put out my first post on that same day. Here is my first post. As I look back over time, I've seen tremendous change in myself as a person and as a Realtor. I've just learned so mu...

Good News Rescue Mission Testimony: Hilary's Story from Good News Rescue Mission on Vimeo. Redding's Good News Mission is an amazing place of hope for many people in crisis. I have a special place in my heart for the Good News Mission. They extended a helping hand to my Son on several occasions. They are a refuge for those in crisis and who face being homeless. They offer people the opportunity to get back on their feet and a safe haven in hard times. There are many facets to the work that the Mission does in our Community. I'm going to focus on the different aspects in a Six Part Series of the Holiday Spirit of Sharing in Our Community. My heartfelt intention is to bring a beautiful perspective to the on-going work to help the homeless in my local community. We have a National Crisis ...

How's that for a title? Yesterday morning I noticed that I was getting a few errant comments showing up on my "Home Page" and I thought to myself that I had noticed a problem with comments now and again. I'd be surprised to have a comment from someone that did not show up on my Home Page. I know that there is an intensive effort to update the "back end" of AR and so being software developers ourselves, we've been expecting that there would be some hiccups. I pretty well ignored the first few and then I began to notice comments that I did not know about. In checking on several of my old posts.....I have comments setting there that I did not know about. I want to apologize to my friends and visitors. I like to comment back on each comment I receive. It's like an extended conversation for ...

Are We Listening or Just Hearing? During a time when jobs were quite scarce a telegraph company was seeking an operator. On the day the interviews were to take place the lobby, of the company, was packed with job seekers. There was a buzz in the room as the applicants talked, all having this unique skill set in common. Being a telegraph company there was the familiar sound of Morse Code in the building. However one man was listening as the operator for the telegraph company tapped out the code, that could be heard in the lobby. The message was, "if you hear this please come directly into the office we have a job waiting for you." Hearing just happens, but listening requires conscious effort. Growing up I enjoyed my grandfather's gift for storytelling. He went to be with the Lord in the ...

I've been missing from the RAIN for the last two days.....David brought home the flu from his trip. He is about three days ahead of me. I knew it was bad because he just does not go to bed and he did. Well, let me tell you that it is a very bad flu. It comes on very mild and builds up a head of steam. I've spent the last two days in bed with fever. I'm now in the everything is wet period. Cold childs and just soaking everything. David tried to go get meds today and he was weakened. We have to do an inspection tomorrow and I'm meeting with a client for a new listing on Saturday. Suck it up. Just a reminder how important it is to live every moment and make sure that you told all those people you love how much you love them. We had that bad, bad flu in the late 1990s and I for the first ti...
