Rancho Mirage Ritz-Carlton Hotel Gets More Time The Rancho Mirage City Council has given the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Rancho Mirage another extension of time on their loan agreement. The council voted 5-0 last week to extend the $20 million loan agreement with the hotel's owners, Rancho California Investments, by one month. Rancho California insists that the city's loan agreement is needed in order to secure a $50 million construction loan that is needed to complete the work on the Ritz-Carlton. The luxury resort on 39 acres overlooking the valley floor first opened as a Ritz-Carlton in 1989. It was then sold and called The Lodge at Rancho Mirage in 2001. In a town where classic designs never go out of style... this 50's desert modern home is still a rock-star!  Purchased in 1956 by Paul and Katharine Mavis, who owned an automobile/trucking business in LA, the 3,300-square foot property was designed by Cody for steel and aluminum tycoon Earl M. There's a goose in my backyard.  Actually there are two geese, male and female, who appear to have mated for life because now there is a nest in the corner of our patio.  Our home in the desert is on an artificial lake and there are swans, Canadian geese, ducks, egrets, guinea hens and other waterfowl that find it to be a warm and safe haven for the winter.  My family and I thought it was a safe haven for them as well, until yesterday. Over the past few weeks I have seen the "couple" sit on our dock and I have cleaned up after them as I watched the koi and catfish swim around.  Not many places to see nature so close and personal in Southern California, so I was thrilled to see the nest and the first egg appear.  Daily she would return and sit on the nest and then take off with her mate ... 04/02/2011
