There's a special place on the southern edge of Palm Springs called Indian Canyons where surprisingly few people visit when in the desert. These gorgeous Palm-lined canyons are where the ancient Agua Caliente Band of the Cahuilla Indians summered. I've taken clients and friends up just to see their faces as they take in the massive groves of Washingtonian Palms, the only-native grown Palms in North America. In the Spring, with the rain and snow run-off from the San Jacintos, the setting is even more magnificent, as cascading waterfalls and swimming holes pop up seemingly around every corner. There's a traditional Indian Trading Post, and many hiking trails of all skill levels. But more than that, this is where the place-name Palm Springs partly originates. The Palms thriving here and t...

Whether you are searching for the perfect holiday, or somewhere permanent to settle down, Palm Springs is the place for you. Offering such a variety as old Indian museums, an air tramway, living deserts and zoos. Where else will you find such varied and awe inspiring attractions?  Only in Palm Springs California can you find these things!  Palm Springs is home to the world's biggest circulating tramcar that takes you on a ride to the peak known as Chino Canyon where you can feast your eyes and your stomach at the restaurant known as the "Top of The Tram" with an 8,000 foot down to bring you to the surrounding area. Following an afternoon on the tramcar, perhaps another attraction you would like to view would be a breath taking scenic drive from the middle of the town, to the land own...

The natural beauty of the desert brings thousands of tourists to the city of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley every year.  When I moved to Palm Springs nine years ago, one of the first activities that I immersed myself in was hiking. Being a "city boy" most of my life, I never had the opportunity to go to any of the National Forests or Desert to indulge in this sport. I heard about the Lykken Trail, the Bump & Grind, and the Mecca Hills.  I wanted to jump right in, and start exploring everything that the desert had to offer. I didn't start my journey hastily though.  The sport of hiking comes with some responsibility.Hiking in the open wilderness or desert can be a fun and exhilarating experience, but it can also be a dangerous  one if you are not prepared.  This week alone, there...

Selling a home can be a very stressful experience.  Many times individuals that are selling their homes try to get it sold as quickly as possible because they often already have purchased another home or they are having a brand new home built and it will be ready for closing in a very short amount of time.  There are some things that you can do to make your home selling experience less stressful. Before you put up your Palm Springs house for sale, you should hire a good real estate agent.  It is very important to try and find a good real estate agent because a bad agent can make your home selling process even more stressful than if you were to try and sell your home by yourself and the worst part is that you will end up doing all of the work and your real estate agent will still end up c...

It might seem a cliche', maybe even passe', the image of Palm Springs as a nonstop martini pool party, but there is a certain more modern truth. Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley do encourage a lifestyle change, especially if you're coming from a fast-paced stressful city life. That is, simply, to slow down. Live more for the moment. That's not to say that all your troubles will go away because suddenly you're in Shangra-La. But, from the first day, you will sense a decided difference in attitudes and demeanor from, say, folks in Los Angeles or San Francisco. Great cities, both of those, but not the mellow image of California the world believes to be true. Now, Palm Springs? Well, as the iconic Eagles song goes ... "Take it Easy"....The contemporary resident or visitor might not indu...

The town of Palm Springs is already in full swing for "The Season".  The palm trees along Palm Canyon Dr. are already decorated with the annual lights, which makes Downtown magical at night.  This weekend we have the Veterans Day Parade, where the city will pay tribute to all those who gave their lives to protect the United States of America. There will also be events taking place at the Palm Springs Air Museum to commemorate Veteran's Day as well.  The Real Estate outlook for the month of October was much better than the month prior.  There were 84 homes sold (51 condos & 33 homes)  in Palm Springs for the month, according to the Desert Area MLS.  This is represents a decrease of 37% over last October, which 104 homes were sold in October of 2006.   Homes in Palm Springs are staying...

There are several reasons why the Coachella Valley is considered a very pet-friendly environment. Much of it is cultural, as America itself has become much more animal-friendly over the past two decades. Most of us can remember growing up with our dogs considered outdoor animals, with their dog-houses, tie-poles and the whole nine-yards.  Now, in 2007, when was the last time you even saw a doghouse? But even more so is this shift pronounced in Palm Springs. The demographics of the town are much of it. Elderly and single people make up much of Palm Springs's population, and many in this group count on their pets as more than mere companion animals. They are family, oftentimes their only family. This makes the pet-friendly percentage of the city population more powerful, resulting in a poli...

Buying a home or condo is a milestone for many people.  It usually signifies that you are able to take care of yourself and you are ready to take life as it comes.  Many times buying a home also means that you received a raise, got a promotion, got married, or you may have a new baby on the way and just need the extra space.  There is also a downside to purchasing a home, it can be very stressful.  There are several things that you can do to minimize the amount of stress that comes with purchasing a home. Many people do not have a choice on what city they want to live in because of the location of their jobs, but some people can choose where they want to live.  Palm Springs, in Coachella Valley, is an excellent location for a young family or a couple that is looking for a place to retire...

Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you with that. But it's true that this exclamation is making the rounds today in discussions about Palm Springs and The Coachella Valley. I'm not going to disrespect Phoenix, for its setting is lovely and some of the nicest people I know live there or in the surrounding communities. But it's not blasphemy to acknowledge that in many ways it has become another Los Angeles. The sprawl is endless, the air often murky with dust, urban ills of every kind dominate their news on many days. Will this happen here? Not likely.Oh sure, of course we already have our own growth issues. If you'll excuse the dated cliché, years ago we stopped being "God's waiting room" and became a year-round full-fledged city (or combination of several little cities, if you will). The plac...

If you stumbled into town these days without having read or heard about the resurgence of Modernism as an architectural and interior trend, you might think Palm Springs Modern had fashioned itself as a sort-of theme park. Along the line of say ... Leavenworth, Washington or other Bavarian-themed towns, only with a twist. Of course the village area remains mostly Spanish-Mediterranean in flavor, but nearly every residential neighborhood has dozens, even hundreds, of spectacular examples of the clean and stark modernism that was so favored from about 1950 to 1970. But it wasn't theme park economics that created this situation. On the contrary, it was economic decline. These aren't faux Vegas-style structures (although that is happening more now, well after the fact) but rather original b...

Ann-Margaret won't be strutting her stuff here in a film anytime soon, at least not with Elvis, but it's true in one major way that Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley has become a sort-of mini Las Vegas.  Driving in from the west the first skyscraper casino/hotel looms 23 stories tall in Cabazon, rising above a massive outlet mall. From there on, there are at least 5 more major casino hotels before the I-10 freeway winds behind Indio for points east.Several of these mega-casinos are currently building higher and larger additions, as word continues to spread throughout Southern California that one does not need to drive to Las Vegas for a complete gambling and entertainment experience. Of course there is virtually no chance the area will ever truly compete with Vegas, as the demand ...

Yesterday, Sunday, Nov 4th, was the Gay Pride Parade in Palm Springs, CA.  It was another warm day, in the low 90's a little cooler than last year.  Prudential California Realty participated with a float about 2 dozen agents and managers.  They handed out beach balls and "pearl" necklaces.  Just to help you remember our agents are "pearls" and we're on the "ball" agents.  If you're looking for a referreal agent in Palm Springs, CA, please let me know.....I'd love to be of assistance to you.

I don't know if anyone saw the sunset last night but it was spectacular. It's just one of the great things that happen in November in the Palm Springs Area.  This shot was taken from Mountain View Country Club in La Quinta, CA. The Palm Springs Real Estate market has started to pick up briskly this month for some agents. Many Canadian clients are seriously looking for second homes, here in Palm Springs, and La Quinta Golf Course Communities. Trilogy has been a favorite of some, offering great incentives to buyers. There are lots of events coming up in November such as the Keith McCormick's Palm Springs exotic car auction November 16th through the 18th, the auction will be held at The Spa Resort Casino located in downtown Palm Springs. Gates open at 8:00 am and the first car crosses the...

The costumes have been packed away, and the candy is still being eaten.  Another Halloween has come and gone in the village known as Palm Springs.   Jeff and I only had a few trick or treaters at the house, which was a surprise because our little "Wisteria Lane" does not have any street lights. Now it's time to start going through my recipes and start planning the annual Diebley-Watts Thanksgiving bash.  The Turkeys are coming!!  Actually, my friend Sean and his partner Jason (Jeff's cousin) do all the planning and cooking, we just supply the house.   Life in Palm Springs is not just about dinners and parties during the holidays, its about getting out and participating in all the activities this town has to offer.  Here is just a sample of what's happening in Palm Springs during the mon...

Everyone loves a parade. Whether its the excitement of the crowd, taking in the attractions, or just the town coming together, a parade brings out the best in everyone. The first parade I remember as a child was the Mother Goose Parade in El Cajon. I always remember my eyes lighting up watching the giant floats (they looked giant to me back then) and the marching bands. The sound of the trumpets and drums had me marching back & forth on the street. It was pure magic, and I didn't want it to end. The residents of Palm Springs came out today to view the annual Palm Springs High School Homecoming Parade in Downtown Palm Springs. Being that my office is right downtown, I had a ring-side seat to view the festivities. This year's parade was on Halloween, so of course there was a kaleidescope ...
