Today, November 4, 2008 my daughter Heather voted for her first time. She registered before October 20th as that was the cut off.  We have been watching the campaigning for the past (how long has it been?) year plus, discussed the candidates, propositions. Heather and I went over the sample ballot together, and she made her own decisions about how to vote, and definitely understood it is a privilege to vote. When Heather came home from school today, we went together to vote down at the Newport Shores clubhouse. Well, I could not pass up this photo op, so I brought along my camera. And she is now wearing her "I Voted" sticker. Congratulations to all first time voters, as it is a momentous time to have your opinion count and respected. Congratulations Heather!

Happy Halloween to You All This is one of my favorite holidays, and every year, we decocate the house with lots of scary decorations, black light, strobe lights and a fog machine. Our family loves Halloween. In fact, as my friend mentioned to me yesterday, if you are looking for a "kid friendly neighborhood" check out the neighborhoods with the cool Halloween decorations. Last night we carved a few pumpkins, and I wanted to share them with you. This one took my daughter Heather a while to carve. Enjoy a spooky day and evening!!

Well you probably think I'm ahead of myself, but not really. The Newport Beach Boat Parade is always a sell out at the local restaurants. This parade started in the early 1900's with just canoes and gondolas. Today some participants spend $50,000 to decorate their vessels for this traditional event. The Newport Beach Boat Parade is the largest in Southern California. The boat parade starts at 6:30 pm every evening starting December 17-21. This year the parade has a new route starting just off Bay Island and ending in the same spot. Make reservations NOW! The following restaurants can accommodate you and your friends at waterside tables to watch the parade. Sunset and Moonrise at the Beach About a week ago, my family went to the beach and we took my dog Patrick. We go to the beach sometimes at sunset or dusk, because no one else is there. And when the weather is warmer, Patrick loves to run along the shore in the waves. I love to watch him run, and he chases the birds, definitely in his blood being a setter. It was particularly beautiful because the sun set, and the moon (which was full) was rising at the same time. Here are some photos of our sunset and moonrise at the beach. Patrick wants to get down and chase the birds. Patrick considering going in the water (I am so glad he didn't because it was pretty cold). It was a full moon and absolutely a beautiful (but very chilly) evening. I love it when there is a full moon and it sparkles on ...

Rudy's Pub and Grill in Newport Beach Rudy's Pub and Grill has evolved to one of the hot spots in Newport Beach. Located right on Newport Boulevard in Newport Beach, the building that Rudy's occupies was originally the House of Pies 20 years ago. There were several businesses that occupied the same building, then in the spring of 1990, it became DP's Pub & Grill. Rudy Kaminski (now the owner) worked for DP's in different positions, and then eventually bought the business. DP's Pub and Grill was a popular sports bar, but it was about to get even better.    Rudy Kaminski and Todd Carson (who is a real estate developer as well as a friend to Rudy and his wife Brandy), created a partnership. With their partnership, they began a complete and total transformation of Rudy's Pub and Grill. The...

To Preview or Not to Preview On broker preview today, I previewed a beautiful and unique Villa located on the Balboa Peninsula. On the bay side of the Peninsula, this home is a three story home originally designed in 1928, and then re-done in 2005 to bring it up to date. This home is three story and has panoramic views of both Newport Harbor, but the roof top deck also has views of Newport Beach, and Catalina Island. This home is one of the tallest homes in the Balboa Peninsula and therefore has the most spectacular views. This home has a game room on the first floor which opens to the patio and boat slips which can accommodate larger yachts. Although this home has modern amenities, it still has the feel of a historic home. With detailed tile work throughout, it really is a gorgeous hom...

Lido Island is a man made Island located in the harbor of Newport Beach, California. The only way to the this small community is a small bridge or by boat. There is no commercial buildings on the Island, it is all residential. While real estate all around us is decreasing, Lido Island seems to be doing just fine! Presently there are 27 active listings on Lido ranging from $1,435,000 to $10,995,000. The average price sold on Lido as of today is $3,223,750. Not too shabby! I had noticed the increase in pricing on Lido so I checked back at reports I have to see what sales were back in 2005 when Real Estate was at it's peak. The average price for Lido then was $2,639,000 which means that with all the changes in the real estate market Lido Island proves to be a gold mine! Lido Island is up 1...

It is a not for profit facility offering aquatic activities for the public including canoeing, kayaking, rowing and outrigger canoe competition.  What a great way to view Newport Harbor and the beautiful homes located on it. There are architecture firms, businesses, families and children competing in this event. Here are some photos of the sandcastles.     Here is one called Gold in the Bird's Nest representing the Olympics in Bejing 2008.                     This one here is called the "Sand Witch".       You can see the incredible detail that is put into each sandcastle. Mama D's opened in July 2005, just a couple of doors down from my office.  There had been several restaurants in the same location over the years; I believe five in the previous five years.  Having had a few great restaurants that I enjoyed close on me, it was with some trepidation that I decided to have lunch there one day with my husband.  I did not want to find a new favorite restaurant only to have it too disappear.   Mama D's is located at 3012 Newport Boulevard in Newport Beach.   Obviously, Mama D's has escaped that fate, and it was obvious to me on my first visit that there was a lot of potential.  We were greeted with a huge smile and felt so welcomed the moment we walked in the door.  Mama D's had been opened only a few days the first time we visited, and at the time, we thoug...
