Throwback Thursday: Rural Mailboxes in the Snow  We used to journey to the California desert cities regularly during the year, taking the trip through the mountains then down a long winding hills into Palm Desert. We were there a number of years ago after New Year's (2013) and traveled through quite a bit of snow...not something we get here in Carlsbad although we can see snow covered mountains off in the distance. This collection of rural mailboxes in the snow - a collection of more than 50 - was too good a photo opportunity to drive by. I'm glad I took the time to take this photo, and several the year before during the summer, since on a later trip in 2014 the mailboxes had all disappeared - no doubt progress of some sort in the mail delivery process!

She is located at what many call the corner of “Main and Main,” Palm Canyon & Tahquitz Canyon Way in the heart of downtown Palm Springs. Marilyn Monroe has many legendary ties to Palm Springs. To name a few, she was photographed and “discovered” by Johnny Hyde from the William Morris Agency at Charlie Farrell’s Racquet Club. She ...

A short drive, 10 to 13 miles up Highway 74 from the ElPaseo shopping community of Palm Desert and you're in the Santa Rosa Mountain community of Pinyon Crest.  A rural community of 100 or more homes with a total of approx. 200 lots.  The acreage size of the lots begin with 1 acre parcels and go up to over 2.5 acre parcels. Pinyon Crest was created in the late 1950's and established the Pinyon Crest Homeowners Association.  The association manages and maintains the decomposed granite roads, private (wells) water system and administers the architectural design standards along with keeping the CC&R regulations up to date and overseeing the well being of the community.  Dues for the community are under 1,000 dollars a year and are paid bi-annually by the property owners.  This area of the ...
