Crystal Ball: The Next 10 Years in the Mortgage Industry  Back in September, the editor of the mortgage industry's "The M Report" publication asked RPM's marketing director if any of our company's loan advisors might want to take a shot at looking 10 years down the road and charting the course for our industry.  I was honored to be asked to contribute and the article that follows is the unedited/properly edited one that now appears in December's issue, which can be found online at the link to follow.  The feature starts on page 29:   http://digital.themreport.com/i/615609-december-2015-fortune-tellers I knew the day would come. In fact, I had rehearsed it several times since my mother passed away, far sooner than any of us expected. The contents of the ragged manila folders, pried from ...

Ringing and Singing Challenge with Rob Spinosa - Mortgage Industry     Thanks to Debbie Reynolds , this month, January 2015, members of AR have been Challenged to go RINGING and SINGING! In the description, Debbie asks that we "tell why you decided to call this person and something you learned ..." To start with WHY - I remembered seeing Rob Spinosa, Marin Mortgage, in a peppy video once and thinking that it would be hard for me to replicate his seeming comfort. If you go and read Rob's 'Members Only' post from January 8th, he explains his strategy for developing new talents. Now something I learned? Well, I learned that Rob Spinosa is a man who started out young in a loving family and decided, at the tender age of 17, to move from one side of the USA to the other. That's how he arrived...

I'm NOT Giving to a Charity This Christmas   Life can have a funny way of sending us signals, can it not?  This past weekend, as I was coming off the final descent of Diamond Head, at mile 25 of the Honolulu Marathon, the unrelenting rain that had plagued the entire race --- the one that began nearly three hours before at 5am --- gave way to the ephemeral rainbows for which Hawaii is deservedly famous.  It seemed fitting that my wife and I could, at last, enjoy a few days with our little boy after all the hard work put in over the last twelve months.  So I was not expecting the skies to open and welcome me home to the finish, but hey, if you want a signal, there it is!     I guess then it was fitting that just a few hours later, as I was casually browsing my Facebook wall, I came across...

It started Thursday evening, a fine drizzle mixed with lots of the famous San Francisco fog. Friday morning was gray, with billowing clouds in the sky and a few sprinkles. By noon real rain was falling, at first gently, and then with more vigor. It had that "I'm here and I'm going to stay a while" appearance. Shortly after noon I closed up my computer, signed out for the afternoon, and went out with my husband to play in the rain--in a redwood forest on Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County, home of the world-famous Muir Woods. Our hike today didn't take in Muir Woods; we chose to park along the Panoramic Highway near Mt. Home Inn, and hike over to West Point Inn, an historic lodge run by the West Point Inn Association, with the public room kept open to all every day. The next 50 minutes were w...
