Avatar's Punjabi Burritos, Mill Valley, CA Who says burritos must be Mexican? Not Avatar's Punjabi Burritos most definitely. This is a wonderful find for hikers, mountain bikers, and everyone who loves tasty, filling food at a low price. Hiking is a favorite past-time of mine, and the Marin Headlands and Mt. Tamalpais are wonderful hiking areas. Hiking up and down hills and staircases for hours sure whets ones appetite, and Avatar's Punjabi Burritos was just the ticket for us last Sunday. Inside Avator's Punjabi Burrito in Mill Valley you'll find three tiny tables; the outdoor sidewalk has a couple more. Or--one can always get a lunch or dinner to go and head down to Old Mill Park about a block away, and enjoy the beauty of the redwood forest while eating your tasty fare. My "naked" (sa...

After more than 30 years in Mill Valley, Sweetwater, the rock club that became a Marin County cultural institution, has been told to close by the end of the month. Sweetwater owners Thom and Becky Steere have been given a 30-day notice by their landlord to vacate the landmark Throckmorton Avenue nightspot, where greats like Jerry Garcia, Carlos Santana, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt and other rock stars have performed over the past three decades.      The building will undergo major improvements, requiring rent increases that the Steeres cannot afford.Mill Valley Mayor Chris Raker, who was surprised to hear of the closure, called the news upsetting. "I'm extremely distressed to hear it. It's a major loss to the community. While I welcome the improvements to the building, I wish some...

After meetings and errands, I stopped in Mill Valley at Mill Valley Market for some groceries.  I don't know how often you go into Mill Valley, but a few years ago they decided to put the utility lines underground on Blithedale Avenue down into Throckmorton Avenue.  I'm all for underground utilities, but it snarled an already crowded artery (Blithedale Avenue) as well as surrounding streets, neighborhoods and downtown.Anyway, today, I noticed that the construction crews were nowhere to be found and the improvements were well worth the hassle.  Some of the poles, sans wires, were still around but it looks and feels so much better. Now, not all the utilities are underground, but I hope that they put us through some more misery so that they will be.      So, you tell me, which do you prefer...
