The Mini Traveler in Marina Del Rey, CA 90292  As some of you know, yesterday Diane and I were taking a casual stroll by the Marina Channel as we were heading on our way to the beach, (that is the Marina Del Rey Beach) and look what we saw: A Mini Traveler! Those of you who read my posts regularly know I love cars and living in the greater Los Angeles is truly a treat, not just from the perspective of the weather, but to be able to find the variety of cars.  I want you to know, if are not keeping up with vintage cars, this is a rare one to find anywhere in the world.      Here is a bit of a history: The Morris Mini Traveler made its first appearance between 1960 and 1962 and continued until about 1969 as the Countryman.  This car is often considered as a real British Icon and the Mini T...

Christmas Decorations in a Pet Friendly Realtor’s home in Marina Del Rey, who has cats! As most of you know I am a pet friendly Realtor in the Greater Los Angeles area. We live in Marina Del Rey and most of our friends and neighbors have beautifully decorated homes with large Christmas Trees.  We on the other hand have limited decorations! We enjoy our neighbors’ and friends’ decorations and we have to enjoy them from a farJ, because we have cats. Our cats do not want us to have a Christmas treeJ Hence I started years ago to make a Horizontal Christmas Tree! So I hope you like our decorations. I do not want to mention we will not have a White Christmas either!     We will have anticipated 77 degrees on Christmas Day and that is the reason we live here! If you are tired of the cold and s...

Photos from the Marina Del Rey Holiday Boat Parade 2013 The Holiday Boat Parade had quite a few festive participants; here are a few pictures for your enjoyment. It was fun seeing Phil Jackson Co-Grandmarshall with Jeannie Buss Co-Grandmashall of the Marina Del Rey Holiday Boat Parade. The Fireworks were great but a bit too shortJ after all when are fireworks too long?   The best part of course was seeing all the decorated boats. Needless to say I cannot post them all here so I will just pick and choose a few for your enjoyment!         If you are considering buying or selling a luxury home, an ultra luxury home, luxury investment real estate, luxury vacation homes, or luxury beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Mar...

The Marina Del Rey’s 51st Holiday Boat Parade will be on December 14, 2013 The Boat Parade is always a fun event, you run into likeminded people and neighbors who you might not have seen for a long time. The best part our Boat Parade viewing does not require driving and searching for a parking placeJ. We live less than 500 yards from the Channel so cocktail in hand we go and enjoy the parade as well as the fireworks. So if you are in Marina Del Rey, CA and live near the Ocean or the Channel you basically have the luxury of front row seats for the Boat Parade. If you do not live near the water come early, because often times the streets get closed down.   Looking for parking there are numerous County Parking Facilities nearby and under $6 you can park and enjoy the Boat Parade. This year...

For this month’s contest, Which Three Active Rainers Would You Like to Meet in Person, I would love to meet my friend Endre Barath from Marina Del Rey, California. Endre and I have developed a friendship based on our love of animals, books, baseball, real estate, great wine and good food (not necessarily in that order). Most recently, Endre and I watched the World Series together ‘virtually’ sending about 180 texts back and forth commenting on the games together, cheering, making funny comments, etc.  Although we were 3,000 miles apart, it felt almost as though he were sitting right here in my living room with me with our casual camaraderie joking back and forth. Endre lives in Marina Del Rey, California with the love of his life, Diane. Endre and Diane recently celebrated their 19 year...

What do you love about your home and why?   This question is always included when I go on a Listing Appointments:  What do you love about your home and why? The answers vary from home owner to home owner. One would think that the answers would me more uniform. Some homeowners show me their kitchen, others show me their bathrooms and then there are others who show me their back or front yards. I could go on and on. There are some home owners who like to show me their Media Room, their Gym, their Library or their Wine Cellar. Needless to say there is one common theme: There is clearly a love affair with their home or a specific part of their home. After I listen to their response, then I have the hardest follow up question to ask: Why do you want to leave your home? In other words why sel...

Fall in Marina Del Rey, CA : Jack & Dougy in front of the Fireplace!   As most of you who read my blog know that, not only am I a Pet friendly Realtor, who lives in Marina Del Rey, CA, but I am also a huge fan of the Fall Season. The temperatures cool down to the point where I can cook comfortably and use the oven to bake without causing the entire place warm up to the point that one cannot enjoy dinner.   Needless to say it would not be Fall Season without our cats laying in front of the fireplace on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I knew it was time to turn it on a few days ago, when Dougy placed himself in front of the Fireplace. He was giving me a subtle hint, just like when he sits in front of the TV. I get it; it is time to turn on the FireplaceJ!   So with that said I hope everyone el...

The VU in the Jamaica Bay Inn, is the Restaurant in Marina Del Rey, CA  where we decided to celebrate Diane's 19th Anniversary. In Marina Del Rey, the investors of a recently rebuilt small seaside hotel called the Jamaica Bay Inn had opened a new restaurant called the VU. I was watching the first year with mild curiosity, and then I heard that the Chef who opened the Restaurant called the VU had been replaced by Chef Allyson Thurber. Now my interests were immediately peaked.   Chef Allyson Thurber was a name I was familiar with, she was the Chef at “Water Grill” downtown Los Angeles (one of my favorite restaurants downtown).  I have been following her with great interest where she was moving. Then I heard she went on and re-mastered “the Lobster” at the Santa Monica Pier. Again my curi...

A memorial for Patrolman Harold L Edgington, Los Angeles Harbor Patrol, California  Marina Del Rey, CA.       On September 30th 1979 Officer Edington was assaulted and the severely-wounded officer was being worked on by Fire Department personnel and rushed to ER with the hopes that they could save his life. Officer Edington passed away and thirty four  years later his senseless and tragic death was memorialized by Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers. On a side note this is such a rare occurrence in Marina Del Rey, CA never the less that is no consolation to his family and relatives and brother Police & Fire Department officers and friends who knew him. What you missed that were not in my pictures was after the memorial ceremony there was a Sheriff’s Department honor guard standing...

On these Hot Days make sure you hydrate yourself as well as your pets!    In case you have not heard:  Breaking news is that the temperatures will remain in the 100 degree range in the majority of the Greater Los Angeles area.   On these hot days make sure you have enough water to hydrate yourself as well as your four legged friend. Dogs need to drink too. So often I see people walking their dogs and the dogs tongue is hanging out and panting. This is a clear sign your pet needs some water.   As the temperatures hover over the 100 degree mark in the San Fernando Valley as well as Downtown Los Angeles, please make sure that you both have enough water to hydrate yourselves.   This post is not meant to be condescending, rather just a quick reminder from your Pet Friendly Realtor as a pub...

How long to keep certain financial records has been the age old dilemma! This post is intended to give you some guidelines as to which documents you should save that might be needed for a smoother closing and or jut to make your life simpler. The most often asked and number one question was: how long to keep tax returns? The answer is not as clear as one would expect. My answer is seven years. The reason that is, because The IRS ha a three years rule to audit your tax returns if they suspect a “good faith error”. Three year error also applies to you, if you discover a mistake in your return and decide to file an amended return to claim a refund.  The IRS also has six years to challenge your tax return if they think you under reported your gross income by 25% or more. Hence my reasoning ...

Film on the Sidewalk: Do you know what I am referring to? As I was walking out of our unit I noticed next to the sidewalk a small piece of trash, upon closer investigation, I recognized that it was a developed film. Needless to say I wanted to pick it up and look what was on itJ since we were in a rush to go somewhere that was not an option. Then after two or three steps later, I thought I should take a photo. My initial plan was to do a Speechless Sunday post. The more I thought about it, I was wondering how many people actually still know what a developed film is? Movies are Digital, Photos are Digital. The good news is I read a blog post the other day that the average Realtor in the United States is somewhere in the late ’50-‘60’s hence they would all know what this wasJ Nevertheless...
