  Spring Migration 2013 has Brought New Birds to our Neighborhood   We had an early spring but then it got extremely cold for a few weeks. During this time, we started getting an early influx of birds and three new species I had not seen before. So I am not sure if the birds just stopped in due to it being warmer here in Southern California or what the reason was. All I can say is “Welcome and Stay a While”.   Eurasian Collared-Doveshave plump bodies, small heads, and long tails. They’re larger than Mourning Doves but slimmer and longer-tailed than a Rock Pigeon. The wings are broad and slightly rounded. The broad tail is squared off at the tip. Why are they called Short Sales when they are Long Sales?   Why are they Called Short Sales when they are Long Sales?    “Why do they call them Short Sales?” This is the #1 question I get all the time from my sellers, my buyers, and callers. Well, there is a very simple explanation to this question. The type of sale is called a “short sale” because the bank is referring to the loan amount being short at close of escrow. The “short” is not a reference of time but instead the payment of the loan in full.   What They Didn’t Tell Me When I Started Real Estate…and Put My Name on a Bus Bench too?     I signed up with a brokerage and took the DRE test and then I became a real estate agent. Sure I was told there would be a lot of start up expenses so I expected that. I had already paid for the books, the disc and to take the state exam so OK…now I can sell homes.       Then I had to go to Quick Start which was a two week class which was extremely helpful and only about $200 so OK now I can sell homes?   Then I started at the brokerage and was told you are a real estate agent but now you must become a Realtor. So you must join a local Board of Realtors and pay for NAR, CAR, and the MLS.   First Cell Phone- You've Come A Long Way Baby in 40 Years    Forty years ago, on April 3, 1973, Marty Cooper, a Motorola employee made the first mobile phone call.   Marty used a Motorola DynaTAC to call Bell Labs (then a division of AT&T), reported to have said "I'm ringing you just to see if my call sounds good at your end."   The phone that Marty used to place the call was a prototype which later was named the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x. Quick & Healthy Spaghetti in 20 Minutes   When you come home tired and want a hot meal but don’t have much time or energy, this is a perfect meal and I can have it on the table in 20 minutes.©     Ingredients: 1 Pkg. Even an Old Dog Can Learn Some New Tricks I belong to a MLS that encompasses a huge area of the state. It is called CRMLS and they are always updating the members with email class’s available plus taped and live webinars.   So last week, I decided to sign up for a live webinar and was amazed at some of the new information given. Search bar-at the top you can just put a few abbreviations in and the results of your search will pop up. Setting Defaults-This was extremely helpful as I do map searches to define my area. So when I click on ‘Map’ and I get a huge picture of the entire state of California and the ocean so I have to zoom in a dozen times to get to the San Bernardino County.   I Did Get Healthy in the Rain- Part 3   We started this in February 2013, and we all made resolutions as to what to do to get on track and be healthier. The whole idea was to make some healthy life changes and I posted 10 habits to try and modify.     Goals: My ten goals were- Sleep more, cut out most junk food, eat more veggies and fruits, eat breakfast every morning, weight in on the first day, cut out most sugary foods, exercise daily, drink water daily, no snacks after 8:00 pm and journal daily. Well, I did 81/2 things out of 10. I did not journal daily and about half the time I did have a snack after 8:00 pm but it was usually a couple of small tangerines.   Goals Met: To sum it up I have made some great changes in my life, and most have become habits. Vintage Loma Linda....If These Walls Could Talk       I am fascinated by older homes and barns. We do not have many vintage properties in the city but I have taken a few pictures to share. This tree has a families of hawks and squirrels.              Loma Linda is a small community and very progressive but has hills, parks and rural roads to enjoy the beauty of wildlife and nature.                    There was a house attached to this barn but has been torn down in the past few years.                 This is a vintage tree which is probably 300 years old and a pair of hawks live here. Yesterday both hawks were standing together after a lot of squawking so I think there is a nest up there. The Hills are Green with Signs of Spring   A couple of weeks ago it was brown and dull up in the hills of Loma Linda, but this morning it was spectacular and it looked like bright green velvet.         I stopped near the orange groves and noticed the sounds of spring with many birds flying around chirping. In the distance I could hear the hawks squawking.   Getting Healthy in the Rain Part 2....and Some Table Appeal   I wrote a post in February about eating breakfast every morning.  I am trying hard to eat breakfast “every” morning so I have found something that helps me eat early.     If I just open the yogurt and grab the granola/cereal to sprinkle on the top and pour my juice in a regular glass, I eat it but it is sort of boring.               But…if I put the yogurt in a pretty bowl and cover the top with granola, plus pour my juice in a clear glass with a slice of lemon, it is so much more appetizing and easier to sit down and eat.       I usually squeeze orange juice every morning but one day a week, I squeeze lemon juice, add a little cold water and 3 Splenda’s and drink my homemade lemonade. A Hummingbird Flew in My House Last Night     Just before dark, I heard buzzing coming from my window in the kitchen. I am always leaving my French doors open to get air and hear the birds flying around. I realized that this adorable little hummer had flown in and was stuck behind the wooden blinds and trying to get through the glass. I tried to get a picture as the camera was right there but unfortunately it was too close and just blurred. This was a time when seconds counted so I had to forgo the picture.   I finally got the hummer to fly out of the window sill and then out the French doors to freedom.
