Okay, so you know how safety-conscious I am.  But even I don't have a camera at my house.... YET!  This is an amazing story of how SMART PEOPLE are using VIDEO CAMERAS to get pictures of burglars breaking into their homes.  Then they are posting the videos on FACEBOOK and asking their friends to repost them wherever they can. They are making WANTED POSTERS of the pictures and passing them around to their neighbors and even posting them in local businesses.  The police are totally on board as you will see in this video. NORM'S HANGER - LA VERNE'S AIRPORT CAFE Okay so I am totally on a kick about the local AIRPORT since we keep seeing all of this news about AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS.  I'm especially upset by one of the politicians going off on how the controllers are  basically no good and should get in trouble for falling asleep even though IN MY OPINION the actual schedule is to blame.  SEE MY BLOG ON THAT HERE. Okay, so you've probably heard in the news recently that many AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS who work at 24 hour facilities have been falling asleep on the job!  (Now before I start in to this topic, you have to know that the controller who brought in pillows and blankets and actually PLANNED to go to sleep out to be fired in my opinion.) My amazing husband is an AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER.  Past airports have included Boeing Field, Sec-Tac and Portland.  Now he is at our local " airport in LA VERNE, CA, called BRACKETT FIELD.  (Yep, we have our very own airport right here in La Verne!)  It's a smaller airport with many flight schools so one could consider it a teaching airport or one for recreational planes.  It actually closes at 9pm so we do not have these type of issues here. Okay, so the next city over from La Verne is Claremont, CA.  Claremont is the home of the "WORLD FAMOUS" CANDLELIGHT PAVILLION.  For those of you who don't know, the Candlelight pavillion is an amazing dinner theater with local actors who are extremely talented.  (And the food is AMAZING!) Shoot, I remember when the founder, BEN BOLLINGER was teaching at our junior college, CITRUS COLLEGE.  And I remember when this very amazing place opened.  (That's kind of dating myself....  but I digress.) Okay, so you've already heard about some of the fantastic reasons to live in La Verne, CA.  Today I'd like to cover the fact that we have a TOP 5 UNIVERSITY here in the city.  Both FORBES MAGAZINE and U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT have name the UNIVERSITY OF LA VERNE the number four school in the region just behind Cal Tech, USC and Pepperdine.  And it ranked 8th in the entire state!  That's pretty great if you ask me! So if you're getting to that stage when your kids are thinking of a great place to go to college or you want to do some studying yourself, look no further! LA VERNE UNIVERSITY has it all! Okay, so my great-grandfather actually played PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL on the Pittsburgh Pirates with the famous Honus Wagner.  My grandmother used to tell me stories about the barbecues the family would have in the off-season where Honus wuld come over.  Apparently she would sit on his knee and he would tell her lots of stories.  Who knew! Anyway, my mother is the proud owner of the scrap book which contains all sorts of newspaper clippings, team photos and memorabilia.  My great-grandmother would collect these during the season in one of those old books with the black paper and the old white ink.  My great-grandfather would come home in the off-season and write notes in the margins.  It really is AWESOME!  My grandmother and my mother even visited Cooperstown to see the HALL OF FAME.  Yo... 03/31/2011

  Okay, so I just have to write this "speculative" piece.  Our weather here in sunny Southern California has significantly gotten colder and wetter this year.  I understand that some would say it's due to "Warming", but personally I think that's simply not true.  So, if I'm right, one has to wonder about the recent earthquakes and the fact that both the Haiti Earthquake and now the Japanese Earthquake have shifted the earth's axis.  I mean, it seems to me that even a slight shift would dramatically change our position in regards to the sun and affect our weather.  And they say that the sea shores have even moved.  That's kind of a huge statement.   That being said, there are a couple of other points to make out of all this. Okay, so the City of La Verne, CA is going hi-tech!  They have announced a 24-hour City Hall where you can now report street lights that are out, the need for graffiti removal, or put in a request for service online!  Wow, I can definitely see why Family Circle named La Verne as one of the 10 BEST CITIES FOR FAMILIES in 2010! Howdy, How do you know when its time to buy a house? First and foremost, you need to look at your personal situation. You need to ask yourself some questions. 1.) Do I plan on living in the same place for the next few years? In a house transaction, neither the Buyer or Seller normally pay any fees to a Real Estate Agent. All fees are paid to the buyers and sellers agents, thru a contract that the sellers/listing agent agreed upon. Those fees are paid directly from Escrow. It's been a while since I've taken any new listings..mostly because of the prices that I can get for them now are normally not high enough for Sellers.  Call me Crazy, but I have a new listing that is coming out in an EXCEPTIONAL & DESIRABLE AREA....and, I'm WILLING to take the chance! (Price Range is approx mid $900,000's) What are some of the advantages of taking an overpriced listing in a highly desirable area? Disadvantages? Normally, I would Never have done this!  I remember reading some of the blog entries on AR and hearing how some Agents wished that they'd have taken an overpriced listing because of the potential other high-end or quality Buyers that they can meet....Maybe sell them another home?  What about getting a Buyer who wants to live there and is willing to pay the price... 08/01/2010
