The annual La Canada High School 7/8 PTA Home Tour is coming upon us on May 7th. The proceeds from this much anticipated event benefit the La Canada 7th and 8th grade PTA. Four local residents open their wonderful homes, with docent-lead tours from 9 am to 2 pm and again from 4 to 8 pm. Real Estate Market Report La Cañada Flintridge, CA                                     November, 2009 La Cañada Flintridge is continuing to retain the unique privilege of having one of the lowest Market Activity Indexes, moving down from number 6 to number 2 from the bottom.  Prices appear to have resumed a downward trend, so if you are interested in buying, this would be a great time.  Market Index 0.35, down 3 points. The Market Index is at 0.35 down 0.03 from last month's 0.38 and up .19 from last year's 0.16.    New Listings - 17, down from 20 last month and last year's 16. In a vote directly related to the economy, La Canada Flintridge residents have voted to approve Measure LC, giving the award-winning La Canada School District a much-needed influx of funds. This weekend is the annual Fiesta Days celebration in La Canada Flintridge. There are events scheduled throughout the weekend. Today you can go to "Afternoon In The Park" which includes a Food Court, Games, Music and more at La Cañada Memorial Park from noon to 3:30 p.m. Tonight is the Family BBQ, Music and Fireworks Show at Memorial Park. The BBQ dinner starts at 6 pm. Bring your blanket, or stake out one of the tables and chairs that are set up on the grass. The High School Jazz Band will perform at 6:30 pm, followed by the fireworks show at 8:30 pm. Tomorrow, Memorial Day, starts out with the Crescenta Cañada YMCA Fiesta Run. La Canada Flintridge has it's annual Spring Clean-Up Week from May 18 to 22, 2009. During this week, on your regular trash day, bulky waste can be placed and the curb and it will be picked up FREE OF CHARGE! Bulky items can include furniture, appliances, electronic equipment, clothing, tires ... stuff that you have been stashing aside until you could figure out what to do with it! Living in La Canada Flintridge means that we have the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in our backyard! Now, there is constant debate as to whether JPL is in Pasadena, or in La Canada. But, whatever the outcome, it remains that JPL is on the border of the two communities. Every year, this high-security facility opens it's doors to the public. The annual open house is this weekend, May 2 and May 3 from 9 am to 5 pm each day. And - it's free! The open house showcases the projects of NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. There are exhibits and demonstrations, with scientists and engineers on hand to discuss and answer questions. If you have the opportunity to attend the open house, it's really worth the time! The La Canada Community Scholarship Foundation is one of the pillars of the La Canada Flintridge scholastic environment. The Foundation began in 1964, and to date has provided nearly $1,000,000 in scholarship money to deserving students. In today's economic environment, and with the cost of a higher education rising, the Scholarship Foundation is more important than ever. This year, the Foundation is holding a raffle - "Win a Vespa!". Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. The prize is a new Vespa LX 150. If you read our prior blog post, you learned about 2nd Lt. Andrew Jacob Torres, USMC, who passed away too early at the age of 23. The Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on June 22. We would like all our friends to support the 5th Annual Andrew Torres Memorial Golf Classic to be held Monday, June 22, 2009 at the La Canada Flintridge Country Club, 5500 Godbey Drive, La Canada Flintridge, CA 91011.2nd Lt. Andrew Jacob Torres, USMC passed away on April 3, 2004 at the age of 23 after a brave battle with cancer. After growing up in La Canada Flintridge, he attended the prestigious United States Naval Academy, and graduated with the Class of 2002. He was then commissioned into the United States Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant. The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation (LCFEF) was founded in 1978, with the purpose of raising money to assist the schools with programs and education. To date, the Foundation has raised over $15 million for the La Canada Unified School District.
