Last week Muscardini Cellars in Kenwood, threw a Dog Days of Summer winery party.  Dogs in costume would be entered into a drawing for gift basket of wine and dog treats.  Gwen and I dressed Sally, our foster beagle, into a shark costume we had on hand.  She was the hit of the tasting room.Oh, guess who won the costume contest...

My husband and I have a very equitable relationship in that we employ tradeoffs. Things the other person seems better at doing, we leave those things up to the person best equipped to deal with them. That is why I work with contractors for our home improvement projects and he does the grocery shopping. We both share the litterbox scooping, in case that thought crossed your minds. Often, I choose the hotels and restaurants when we travel, and my husband selects our itinerary. Which is how we ended up on a 6-mile-plus hike yesterday, headed straight up to a 2729 elevation at the summit of Bald Mountain. Right after checking home to make sure our house sitters are doing OK. Pica is getting a lot of extra attention from them, which makes me feel OK about leaving Sacramento and going to Sono...

~ A Sensual & Intellectual Feast in Sonoma Wine Country ~   Sonoma Valley is a feast for the senses during the late summer and fall.  The natural beauty of our hills and vineyards, the aroma of crushed grapes in the air, and seemingly endless opportunities to wine and dine during September and October are sensual pleasures that draw thousands of visitors annually.   But there's more.  High-brow film buffs and everyday movie-lovers have yet another reason to travel here this time of year.  It's the Santa Rosa International Film Festival, a 7-day movie extravaganza, also known as the Wine Country Film Festival, which is marking it's 25th anniversary.   The festival kicked off on September 14th and it runs through Tuesday, September 20th.  The schedule lists movies about the arts, the envi...

Friday Fotos - A Cottage Garden in Kenwood, CA One of the nicest things about being a wine country real estate agent is the variety of landscapes I get to see.  If you've read my blog with any regularity, you've probably noticed I post a lot pictures of Sonoma landscapes.  I think we live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet.  The vineyards, open meadows, pristine hills---everywhere I turn it seems there is an abundance of natural beauty.  Recently I was on a tour of a sprawling Kenwood country property.  Tucked away behind the main house,  several outbuildings, and a pool with a carefully landscaped patio,  I found this charming and untamed Kenwood cottage garden.  And behind it?  A young vineyard next to an old Walnut orchard. Ah, the simple pleasures of a wine country ag...

New Country Home in Kenwood, CA Had a real treat today.  Our office toured an upcoming listing in Kenwood, on the northern end of Sonoma Valley.  It's on Lawndale Road which runs through the wooded western hills between the valley floor and Annadel Regional Park, popular with hikers, bikers and horseback riders. It's a beautiful stone and timber single level home being built on a knoll top adjacent to another lovely country property in Kenwood owned by some clients who've become good friends.  The builder has made a focused effort to keep neighbors in the loop about the project and to minimize disruptions to their lives during the construction process.  He's done a good job there, too.  The house is approximately 4500 square feet with four bedrooms and it has a U-shaped design.  A centr...

I'd like to think I know Sonoma County pretty well, but once in awhile I'll travel down a road I haven't been on for quite awhile and find something new. As I was traveling past the Kenwood Restaurant and Bar, something shiny caught my eye. I glanced over to the right to see a huge sculpture in the middle of a field. I pulled over to take this photo, not realizing it was a wind vane. After I found my camera and stepped out of the car, the wind vane was slowly moving in the right direction for me to get a getter shot. Just incredible!

New Sonoma Real Estate Listings The first broker tour of Autumn 2010 was light on new Sonoma Valley real estate listings.  The highest priced home in Kenwood was a repeat showing of a property that first hit the market at $4,250,000 in mid-June.  The price is now $3,795,000 and for that you get a 5000 square foot single level home and this pool with a gorgeous Sonoma Valley view. Here's what the list of properties on tour this week looked like (sorry for the fuzzy font): Cash is playing a big role in sales of Sonoma real estate.  Buyers are paying cash for nearly 30% of all sales in the towns of Sonoma, Glen Ellen, and Kenwood.    I wonder if this is true in other markets?  Anyone care to weigh in?

The Town of Kenwood is a Wine Country tourist destination, and a great place to live!     Kenwood is an unincorporated part of Sonoma County located between the City of Santa Rosa, and the City of Sonoma on Hwy 12, right in the middle of the "Valley of the Moon".  Driving to Kenwoodcould be considered a vacation in itself.  Beautiful vistas on both sides of the road. Vineyards, orchards,  cattle, art, and wineries.Kenwoodis considered rural residential, however in the heart of the village is a collection of shops, restaurants, tasting rooms, and art galleries that will help fill your afternoon visit.  Venture a few miles in any direction, and you'll find yourself in one of many state parks such as Annadel, Hood, or Sugarloaf.  It's hard to draw a boundary around the town of Kenwood.  Th...

Doce Lunas Restaurant - Kenwood, CA (Sonoma County, California) Doce Lunas Restaurant is the perfect place to stop for brunch before a day of wine tasting in Kenwood and/or Glen Ellen. It's located in Kenwood Village (where you will also find the Kenwood Market and the Kenwood Post Office) in Sonoma County, California amidst many of the wineries and tasting rooms. Doce Lunas Restaurant makes an excellent traditional eggs benedict as well as a hot links eggs benedict, both served with home fries. They have an outdoor dining area if you prefer dining al fresco. Service is very friendly and attentive, so I look forward to our next visit to Doce Lunas Restaurant...before an afternoon of wine tasting, of course!
