Everyone in the Active Rain community is missing something and ready to get some normalcy back.....here in Hermosa Beach we're pretty excited to get our beach back (with lot's of restrictions but no complaints here) later this week.  I'm most definitely ready to feel the sand between my toes once again!

If there weren't already enough reasons to love Hermosa Beach, they've added yet another one.  While concerts at the beach have been a staple of summer Sunday's for a few years now, they've added movies at the beach on Saturdays.  We had the chance to put our toes in the sand while watching corny surf classic North Shore.   There's only one more movie this summer and the crowd voted for Grease.  So grab a beach chair and enjoy a new way to enjoy the iconic beach in Hermosa. If this and everything else Hermosa Beach sounds great to you....why not live here?  See more information on Hermosa Beach real estate to learn more about moving to this fantastic town.

In the late 1940's and the 1950's, Hermosa Beach had, what at that time, was considered a state of the art Marine Aquarium - as reported in an article in the Daily Breeze in August 2006 by Andrea Sudano, the aquarium consisted of "giant glass-fronted tanks of the Ocean Aquarium just south of the pier and west of The Strand. Hermosa Beach's own mini Sea World stood just south of the pier where Shumacher Plaza now is -- or as the Daily Breeze put it in 1956: "Just walk to the foot of Pier Avenue and turn your feet to the right before they get wet. In front of you is a large gray building housing numerous specimen from the sea next door. It's the Ocean Aquarium." The original operator and owner A.D McBride opened the aquarium in 1947.The large blue building was round, so visitors could wal...

We offer free preparation and value consultation of your luxury Hermosa Beach property.  It’s the first day of school, and finally the morning air was a bit cooler when I walked my dog this morning.  It’s been a hot and humid summer in the South Bay of Los Angeles, and even the coastal beach cities did not escape the summer heat wave.Do luxury home sellers and buyers keep the real estate market sizzling in the summer or does the market fizzle and slip into the lazy dog days of summer? Let’s see how laid-back Hermosa Beach with its quaint beach cottages, sandy beaches and its ample supply of luxury homes  priced over $3,000,000 closed out July 2015:There are currently 11 luxury residences priced at or above $3,000,000 for sale in Hermosa Beach ranging in price from $3,500,000 to $16,000...

Say you’re viewing a home and are impressed with how it looks. The walls are freshly painted. Everything seems bright and new. You’re considering making an offer.     Then, while standing on a mat in the kitchen, you hear a squeak below your feet. You lift the mat and see that some tiles are broken. Obviously the mat was there to, literally, cover up that defect. A few broken tiles are not a big deal. But now you’re thinking, “What else might be wrong with this house?” There’s no reason to worry that every home will have maintenance issues hidden from view. However, it’s smart to do your due diligence to ensure the home you’re considering is truly as good as it looks. One way is to have a professional home inspector check out the property as a condition of your purchase offer. He or she...

Manhattan, NYC celebrated its noted Mahattanhenge event (those rare summer solstice days when the sun aligns with the east-west street grid) with a huge street party.  Catching a glimpse of the setting sun is not easy deep in the heart of Manhattan.  Quite the opposite is true in Hermosa Beach, CA.  The sunset over the Pacific Ocean is a sight to behold most evenings throughout the year. There's truly something magical about twilight along the California coast.  The colors, the light, the salt water smell in the air where sand meets surf are a nightly treat for the senses and soul. It's the coastal lifestyle of the Beach Cities of the South Bay of Los Angeles that you're buying into when you purchase a home in Hermosa Beach.  Housing options in Hermosa run the gamut from cottage to ocean...

Rain in June is not the norm for Southern California, but this morning a light rain was falling when I walked Faye, my spunky little Chihuahua.  The air was filled with the scent of petrichor. That's the new word I recently added to my vocabulary as it means the smell of rain on the dry earth--and we certainly have plenty of dry earth in the South Bay of Los Angeles due to our relentless drought.  The origin of the word is Greek and is a combo of the words for "stone" and "blood of the gods."  Very fitting description for those raindrops falling onto our hard as a stone and thirsty soil, and the scent was certainly heavenly as well. One of the positives of living in Hermosa Beach is lot sizes tend to be small, and that means a smaller yard to maintain and water and more time to enjoy the...
