Queen Califia's Magical Circle, Kit Carson Park, Escondido, CA It's about time that I share a little bit of information about the diverse community in which we live and work. If you are every looking for a hidden gem, you may find it in Escondido--with its rich history, and interesting attractions. Escondido is a city located in north of the city of San Diego. The name means "hidden" in Spanish-it occupies a shallow valley ringed by rocky hills. Founded in 1888, it is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County. Escondido was originally settled by Native American tribes. Spain controlled the land from the late 1700s to the early 1800s, and established many missions in California to convert the indigenous people. When Mexico gained its independence from Spain, the local land was divided...

Sometimes known as "e-signing" or "e-contracts" or "e-documents", this online format for signing documents is swiftly gaining in popularily.  And why not?  Electronic contract execution services cut costs for Realtors®, home buyers, house sellers, and escrow / title companies. You can receive documents wherever you are (as long as you have your laptop and internet access), review docs, and forward them to your clients.  Your clients can review and sign online also.  Then you can forward everything (via email or e-fax) to the other agent or to the escrow officer - without printing a single piece of paper!  Electronic document signing is safer for the environment because it doesn't involve printing out paper (or cutting down trees to make paper).  Remember when we used to print 4 copies o...

Get out your Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo stilettos and head for Escondido, CA on April 3 for the first Stiletto Walk as part of the Escondido Fashion Week Downtown 2009, presented by Mercedes Benz of Escondido.  The purpose of the Stiletto Walk is to raise awareness about ovarian cancer, and to benefit the Clearity Foundation, a non-profit group dedicated to the improvement of treatment options for ovarian cancer (remember Gilda Radner??). There are 15,000 deaths per year from this particular cancer and new treatment options are needed.  [photo courtesy of kiirndy on Flickr]  And it's NOT just for the women. Any daring man who wants to take a several block stroll in some stilettos is welcome too - 2 blocks actually. Some shoes are being donated so if you don't have your own you will l...

The automatic clothes dryer is a wonderful invention; very convenient and much easier than the old fashioned clothes line!  But, it comes with a price; your clothes dryer, whether gas or electric, is one of the most expensive appliances to operate.  A poorly vented dryer will cost $200 - 300 more in energy bills and it is a fire hazard.   Where does the heat, moisture and lint go while as your clothes tumble dry?  Code states that dryer exhaust must be vented outside; however, some dryers are vented to a crawl space or an attic, causing mold and mildew problems which lead to upper respiratory related illnesses, among other hazards.    If you have a gas dryer, the dryer vent system is also removing gas by-products from your home, including carbon monoxide.  Proper dryer vent cleaning, in...

Escondido is a sensational community nestled in an extensive valley within the coastal mountains of Southern California. With an estimated population of 140,505 residents, Escondido offers a bustling urban community surrounded by gentle rolling hills and citrus and avocado groves. Settling about 30 miles northeast of San Diego, and 100 miles south of Los Angeles, Escondido is considered the heart of San Diego North. Escondido has endured a rich and diverse history. Archaeologists estimate that the first ancient human occupants came to this area over 10,000 years ago. Several Native American Indians tribes over the last 1,000 years have also called this area home. In turn, Spanish colonization replaced many of the tribal villages in the early 1800s. On December 6, 1846 the course of his...

First Night celebrations have become popular around the country in many communities, some with traditions that have lasted for years. Certainly the one in Times Square, NYC is the most famous, and enjoyed by millions live and via TV. [click photo for link to the website] Escondido, an inland community about 30 minutes from the coast has one of the biggest First Night celebrations in the San Diego area, short of the one downtown. This year is the 14th annual event, with activities and music beginning at 6 PM and lasting until midnight. The event is alcohol-free and great fun for everyone, including kids. The First Night celebrations take place in two venues - the California Center for the Arts, and Grape Day park. The fireworks shows takes place at 9 and Midnight (it was canceled last ye...

(Dryer Vent Wizard of Murrieta)
Are your Dryer Ducts Aluminum or Vinyl?   Have you looked at the ductwork attached to your clothes dryer?  Is it aluminum, or plastic or vinyl?  This is important to know.  Recent UL safety codes require solid metal or semi-rigid material be used for the dryer duct system.  To understand why this is, consider the function of the dryer vent system:    Heat Removal   The hot air and moisture removed from your laundry is removed from the dryer drum and carried through the dryer duct system to a vent located outdoors.  State law recommends that all gas dryers be vented outside.   Lint Removal   Another function of the dryer vent system is to remove the lint that is produced by your laundry as it dries.  Most of the lint is caught in the lint screen; however, some does end up in the dryer du...

Huge headlines, scary story lines, and big government moving at breakneck speed to shore up our economic backbone.  You are undoubtedly hearing about an eminent and massive move by the Federal government to finally get its arms around the national, indeed global, financial crisis. The latest courtesy of my friend and Branch Manager Paul Gonzalez at our sister company CW Mortgage.   We are writing to you today to briefly shed some light on what this may mean to you and I.  It will be historic, with nothing in our Nation’s history to compare to it.  And this is going to happen literally in a matter of days.   The Federal government appears to be preparing a new entity that will purchase most, if not all, bad mortgages that are currently on the books of lenders and banks, and possibly Fann...
