According to the State of California's 2006-2007 Academic Performance Index (API) growth report that was released on August 31st, the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) is still making progress academically.  The district's performance grew eight points since the spring, beating the statewide average of California's students by 37 points.  Socioeconomically disadvantaged students, ESL (English as a Second Language) and disabled students in the Elk Grove school district, moved closer to the state's target API of 800.  The annual performance index, is the way to hold the schools accountable for their academic performance.44 of the district's elementary, middle and high schools, have scored as well or better than the state's average API of 727, while 27 schools have passed the 800 m...

On Wednesday, August 22, 2007, a new police vehicle will be seen patrolling the streets of Elk Grove in addition to the commonly seen Ford Crown Victoria patrol cars. Elk Grove Police Officers will now be patrolling the city of Elk Grove in a 2007 Dodge Charger, equipped with the police package and a state of the art siren system manufactured by Federal Signal called the "Rumbler". The 2007 Dodge Charger will be marked in the familiar "black and white" body color with reflective “Police” designs on the side doors and an overhead light bar. Elk Grove, CA home owners have been battling over 2 years now, for a Big Box Ordinance. The Elk Grove City Council last week finally adopted a Big Box Ordinance for Elk Grove.This debate started two years ago when Walmart proposed a Big Box store within a neighborhood. The Elk Grove, CA Promenade Shopping Mall was approved by the City Council of Elk Grove on Wednesday night. The Promenade Mall, an open air mall is set to open October 2008 and provide within the first year of opening 2,500 new jobs for Elk Grove citizens along with a sales tax revenue expected of $4 million.Now, doesn't that make more sense than building yet more homes? It's time to bring some jobs into Elk Grove. This is a good start. Next is big business...higher paying jobs. If you want a City to prosper, in my opinion you need to focus on establishing new business partners along with controlled, responsible growth. I worked at the fireworks booth today on the corner of Elk Grove Blvd. and Waterman Rd., It seems like only yesterday that these roads were fields and our town had no Starbucks. As I watched the cars and met with the people who stopped by our booth (thank you for the support!) I was filled with a sense of satisfaction. I was in my hometown! A town where people still know each other and support each other. Thank you Elk Grove for the parades, the blood drives and even the spaghetti feeds (those carbs go straight to my hips!) :) Thank you for providing fireworks at the park where we can enjoy our family and the magical light show. Sellers who do not have to sell short are facing a lot of competition from those homes that are short sales where the lender and the owner are looking for a quick sale and therefore price below the market. Therefore sellers are having to lower the price in order to gain attention from potential buyers, note that 42% of activity in the Elk Grove zip codes, have gone to price reductions.
