Pigs, cows, chickens, horses all in one place. No, I am not talking about a barn. Well, if you want a house with a barn in California that can be arranged, just contact the A-Team!:) I am talking about cotton candy, caramel apples, ginger bread, and cinnamon rolls. I am talking about rides that go around and around and shopping that goes around and around full of vendors that hold every dicing and chopping machine you can think of. I am talking about the San Diego County Fair! It is happening Now! This week is the last week of the fair, don’t miss it! It is the best county fair, I go every year! The San Diego county fair was originally called the Del Mar fair, since the fair takes place where the surf meets the turf. Horses races are held in the fairgrounds soon after the fair. The coun...

Del Mar Fair 2008 AKA San Diego County Fair It's time once again for the Del Mar Fair or San Diego County Fair as it's officially known. This San Diego tradition is well known to us San Diegans as a "can't miss event" and our kids sure remind us of that. My daughter has already asked 10 times, can we go to the fair, can we go to the fair, and we just got back from a vacation to New York last night. The fair is at the beautiful Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar and always runs just before Thoroughbred Horse Racing starts at Del Mar every year. This year was a little more congested, traffic wise, due to the 2008 U.S. Open in Torrey Pines which is a stones throw away from the Del Mar Fairgrounds. This year the San Diego County Fair will run from June 14 to July 6. Hours for admission into the...

One of the biggest events in San Diego is coming our way. It’s hard to believe this main event of the summer here in San Diego is just around the corner (7 weeks to be exact). (the photo was taken at the Del mar Fairgrounds at the racetrack). The annual San Diego County Fair will run from June 14 through July 6 at the Del mar Fairgrounds (closed on Monday June 16 and June 23). The record attendance of over a million occurred last year and this is expected to do as well if not better. The theme this year is “Summer of Sports” with a focus on ALL age groups and ALL types and levels of athletes. There will be top name performers throughout the fair at the grandstand stage, as well as the traditional fair attractions – the livestock show, home and hobby, a flower show, woodworking, and ple...

Come experience the lifestyle of the beautiful Beach Colony subdivision in Del Mar, California. As a San Diego native, born and raised, I have watched Del Mar change and grow over the years.  However, the Del Mar Beach Colony has managed to retain it's small town feel, and beach community atmosphere. The Del Mar Beach Colony is nestled between Solana Beach to the North, La Jolla and Torrey Pines to the South, and the famous Del Mar Racetrack and Fairgrounds to the East.  One of the favorite attractions for both locals and vacationers is "Dog Beach".  A beautiful sandy stretch located due West of the Del Mar racetrack, the name Dog Beach says it all.  Both dogs and owners can frolic in the sand and the surf, while watching surfers, sunsets as the locals organize beach volleyball pick-up ...

San Diego Easter Sunday at the BeachThe weather in San Diego for Easter Sunday 2008 was gorgeous. It was a sunny day in the 70's and we decided to take a walk on one of our favorite beaches, Torrey Pines State Beach. We weren't the only ones to have the idea of a nice walk on a San Diego beach on an Easter Sunday afternoon. There were hundreds of others at the beach walking, jogging, tanning, making sand castles, swimming and everything else you could imagine doing on a beach. As we left the Torrey Pines State Park parking lot we couldn't help but notice all of the flowers that were in bloom by the oceans edge and in the Torrey Pines canyons. Wonderful purples, yellows, whites, pinks and other colorful flowers were a Spring treat on this Easter beach walk. There were two large groups of ...

Though many people may try and avoid it, there are some very good reasons to purchase real estate in a down market. Real estate investment has always been an interest for people looking to put their money into something secure. When the market is distressed it can be the perfect time to purchase real estate. The real estate market said to be in a down market state, or a distressed state, when the value of property is falling. As a San Diego Realtor, I am frequently asked about income demographics in San Diego County–and find it handy to have a chart (or at least a cheat sheet) for reference. The one below provides more than a few surprises, courtesy of the San Diego Business Journal (one of my favorite local reads), which provided this data last summer. We found it surprising, for example, that Carlsbad outranks Encinitas and that Poway beat out Coronado. Would you have guessed that Oceanside would best San Diego? And few should be surprised that tiny Del Mar beat out them all. Of course, Rancho Santa Fe and La Jolla were not included, as Rancho Santa Fe is not an incorporated city, and La Jolla is part of the City of San Diego.Click to see this comparative chart of median family incomes in San Diego County ...

We recently joined the Del Mar Chamber of Commerce.  One of the local restaurant chains saw that we joined and sent us a mailer so that we would use them for catering.  My teenage son got the mail from the mailbox, and when he saw it, he took it upon himself to mark it up and grade it, just like a school paper.  With that said, here's the advertisement. The names and phone numbers have been redacted to protect the innocent. Anyway, I took it upon myself to fax this to the franchise's corporate headquarters (non-redacted, but marked-up, version) so that they can get some help with their marketing.  I feel a bit sad for the business.....They really are trying their best to market, and they're even spending the money on the mailing.  But they should ask for some assistance from corporate h...

Del Mar Home Price Median for 2008Del Mar 92014 had a median home price of $1,442,000 in 2007. This number is $23,000 less than the 2006 Del Mar median home price of $1,465,000 and $28,000 less than the 2005 Del Mar median home price of $1,470,000 which is the peak median home price in Del Mar. For the most part the desirability of Del Mar real estate has kept the home values level throughout the overall San Diego real estate downturn. There are currently 80 homes on the market in February 2008. The median list price is $3,546,803 which is skewed by the $76,000,000 listing in Del Mar. Without the $76,000,000 home in the calculation the average median list price is $2,629,674. The average days on market for Del Mar homes are 105 days. Del Mar is one of the most recognizable places in San...

Carmel Valley North West CommunitiesNorth West Carmel Valley has many different communities. These Carmel Valley communities are; Stallions Crossing, Venezia, Derby Point, Mayfield, Palmilla, Santa Fe Summit, Heights, Cambria, Pacifica, Estates, Alta Mar, Regentz Square, Martinique, and East Bluff. These communities are comprised of homes - single family detached or condos - single family attached. Some of the communities as you can see by the map have the same name but are in different areas of Carmel Valley. I think the master plan was to break up the communities so there was more of diversity in the community look and feel. I think it worked. Carmel Valley is anything but your typical master planned community. There are several schools in this part of Carmel Valley. These Carmel Valle...
