Christi and I enjoy visiting with the inlaws at their home at Caminito Pointe Del Mar   ... their home located about 1.5 miles inland from the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean at Del Mar ...   and 12 miles north of downtown San Diego.   During our visit to Del Mar this past Sunday, we geared up with running shoes, shorts, dry-fit shirts, and sun block ...  out for a walk towards the beach.    We hiked along Carmel Valley Road toward the west, passed interesting homes on the right and Los Penasquitos Marsh and Wetlands on the left.  It was a beautiful day. Passing through entry to the Torrey Pines State park, we walked under the Cal Trans bridge and then under the Del Mar bridge across the public parking area ... and then we hit the sand.     The air was a little breezy then and the tide...

Dog Beach in Del Mar, also know as North Beach to area residents, is probably one of the better known beaches in our area, at least to dog owners and their dogs. And it's not far from Carlsbad either.  Read More:  Del Mar Real Estate There are limited places at the beach when dogs can frolic (unleashed, even, from Labor Day until June 18) with other dogs and their owners, and Dog Beach is undoubtedly the best known. I get questions from buyers frequently about where they can take their dogs, so having a place like Dog Beach to refer them to is great. You will see dogs, and owners, of all shapes and sizes and on a crowded day it's quite a sight.    Parking can get hairy on the weekends and especially during the summer, unless you are willing to walk a distance (on street parking is on t...

The very popular annual Del Mar Antiques Fair is coming to the Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend, Friday January 16th through Sunday January 18th. This is the largest fair of its kind in California with antiques from around the world, held at the site of the famous Del Mar Racetrack and the San Diego County Fair (this year starting June 12, 2009). This fair is huge and always well attended (hey, who can beat $8 admission for all 3 days), with around 300 vendors (100,000 SF of exhibition space) offering wide array of antiques, including furniture, art, jewelry, china, glassware, sterling, lighting and vintage clothing. Del Mar, California is a charming, affluent seaside town about 10 miles south of Carlsbad. Home of the famous Del Mar Race Track and Fairgrounds (site of the annual San Diego County Fair, among numerous other events), Del Mar real estate is some of the most expensive in San Diego County (La Jolla - its southern neighbor - Coronado, and Rancho Santa Fe being the other high end communities). READ MORE: Del Mar - Affluent Seaside Village Where "The Turf Meets the Surf"     Del Mar's commercial area is clustered along historic route 101 (called Camino Del Mar in town), just a block or two from the ocean. There are loads of upscale shops and boutiques along this tree-lined street, with glimpses of the ocean, and a fine selection of restaurants and cafes (a few offer ocean views, especially t...

Our tradition, for many years, has been to go out and cut down our Christmas tree (actually for many years it has been two - the regular tree and a special tree, usually in the kitchen for our collection of bird ornaments). I'm not sure how many years it has been but certainly 20 or so. The appeal has been to get something really fresh and a tree that would not be dropping its needles the minute your brought it in the house. We have gone out to cut down trees when it was 25 below zero when living in Minneapolis. Now THAT is COLD!!! And New England often had snow and certainly the cold. The move to Carlsbad in Southern California was very odd when it came to getting our trees. I love the warm weather, but despite that getting our trees at the tree farm in Fallbrook in shorts and sandals ...

Del Mar is renowned as one of the most beautiful destinations on the California coastline. In addition to the 2.5 miles of sandy beach, the Del Mar Thouroghbred Club, home of the race track Bing Crosby made famous crooning "Where the Turf Meets the Surf" during the late 30's and then again after WWII, is the summer draw for the well heeled. But did you know that Del Mar in the winter is one of the jewels of Southern California? From October to February one can expect mostly sunny days with temperatures in the 60s and 70s, with over night lows in the 50s, making Del Mar a vacation beach rental haven for snowbirds.

Southern California has a lot of tourists in the summer.  People from all over the world come here, and our beaches are some of the best in the world.  Now, you are here visiting with your dog, and want to go to the beach....what do you do with Fido?  Well we have good news for you if you are in the Del Mar area of San Diego County.... Del Mar, Ca has a dog beach right across the street from the Del Mar Fairgrounds.  Your dog must be on a leash, and you have to clean up after him, but hey that's not a bad trade off for a day of fun and sun for all of you . Just remember that you could be subjected to a large fine if your dog is not on a leash.  Look for the signs on PCH ~ Pacific Coast Highway, where you park that tell you the fine :)                                       California is ...

One point of this post, photos and video is to share some information about a local San Diego business to know about. Most importantly, to me anyway, since my anniversary celebration and this business are intertwined you have to hear about the celebration first before I'll tell you about Dinner at Home. It was our 29th anniversary yesterday. Hard to believe so much time has gone by. But I have two wonderful daughters to prove it. During this time I finished grad school, we lived in two rental properties, and we have owned 9 primary homes, enjoyed two vacation properties on Cape Cod, and lived in 6 states. There were two prior careers before real estate and a successful art gallery in the Boston area. It has been an incredible journey. Kay made me promise to leave my computer by 4 PM yes...

It is summer time for where the surf meets the turf. It is time for the Del Mar horse races! The Del Mar horse races are great for everybody, even the whole family! Every Saturday and Sunday are family weekends from 1pm to 6pm. There are special activities for the kids and they get in free! One can even sit in the small restaurant overlooking the pallock and watch the magnificent horses. All the betting machines on every corner make it really fast and easy to bet too! I love the Del Mar fairgrounds, they have a fun event after a fun event. They really know how to make north county San Diego a blast! I went to the Opening Day of the horse races last Wednesday and it was fantastic! Opening day just has a different feel, a classy feel, even though it is a pack in feel. Many young people co...
