I'm a Del Mar Race Track junkie.  Actually, I've been a fan of horseracing since I was a kid, playing at the Garden State Park, in my hometown of Cherry Hill, NJ.  When I moved to Solana Beach, I was attracted to the the beach, San Diego, and best of all, the proximity of the World Famous Del Mar Race Track.  One of my favorite things to do is to take my daughter to breakfast for the morning workouts.  The horses start working out at 5AM and the track opens at 7:30AM.  You can enjoy a delicious breakfast buffett for less than $10.00 (includes coffee and juice).  From the Del Mar Turf Club website: Early risers have a chance to catch morning workouts and breakfast in the Clubhouse Terrace Restaurant every Saturday and Sunday during the season. From 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., trackside announcer ...

Today, July 22, is the long-awaited Del Mar Races opening day for thoroughbred racing at the famed Del Mar Race Track at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar California.   READ MORE: Del Mar - Affluent Seaside Community The horses have been racing at Del Mar for decades now, attracting crowds from all over the country. The Del mar races gained a reputation as a place to hobnob with the Hollywood set years ago (Bing Crosby, Jimmy Durante, the Rat Pack, among many others) and remain a popular celebrity-sighting venue today. And the Del Mar Races Opening Day is THE event on the summer social scene, with the ever-popular "One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats contest." Wonder if I have time to dredge up an old chapeau, decorate it and still get to the races? I don't think I could compete with the ...

Del Mar San Diego County Fair Movies 2009 Everybody loves the Del Mar Fair. Officially known as the San Diego County Fair it won't let you down for fun, food, rides, games and entertainment. I went this year and found that the 2009 Fair is just as good as the years before. I stopped by Albertsons Grocery Store and got discounted tickets and then drove to the Del Mar Fair to meet my family and friends. I went on a Friday afternoon was surprised to see that there was no line for parking and a very small line to get into the Fairgrounds. The only reason there was a line was for security to check belongings.I went to one of the stages where we had friends performing and then strait to the rides and games for the kids. Some of the Funzone rides are Carousel, Cliff Hanger, Crazy Mouse, Creep ...

Lots of buyers dream of having a waterfront home by the beach. That's easy to understand, as there is something about the allure of the ocean, the sand and the light at the beach that appeals to so many. Having the financial wherewithal to acquire a home on the ocean is another matter entirely, especially with Southern California waterfront homes being as pricey as they are.   Buyers looking for waterfront homes in the coastal area of North County San Diego have a number of options for oceanfront living, depending on what you want and how much you are willing to spend. There are, of course, a number of considerations when buying beachfront property - the dangers from storms; erosion; wear and tear on the house (inside and out) from wind, sand and moisture; restrictions around what you c...

The popular San Diego County Fair will open on June 12, 2009 at the Del Mar Grounds and run through July (the fair will not operate on June 15 and June 22). The Del Mar Fair Grounds are located at the Via de la Valle exit off the 5 Freeway, at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. (Information - 858-755-1161).   The San Diego County Fair is one of the largest in the country (ranked #5 in 2007 with attendance at over 1.2 million), and second only to the Los Angeles Fair, with an incredible array of events, exhibits, rides and games, animals and food offerings to suit every taste. Christi and I enjoy visiting with the inlaws at their home at Caminito Pointe Del Mar   ... their home located about 1.5 miles inland from the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean at Del Mar ...   and 12 miles north of downtown San Diego.   During our visit to Del Mar this past Sunday, we geared up with running shoes, shorts, dry-fit shirts, and sun block ...  out for a walk towards the beach.    We hiked along Carmel Valley Road toward the west, passed interesting homes on the right and Los Penasquitos Marsh and Wetlands on the left.  It was a beautiful day. Passing through entry to the Torrey Pines State park, we walked under the Cal Trans bridge and then under the Del Mar bridge across the public parking area ... and then we hit the sand.     The air was a little breezy then and the tide...

Dog Beach in Del Mar, also know as North Beach to area residents, is probably one of the better known beaches in our area, at least to dog owners and their dogs. And it's not far from Carlsbad either.  Read More:  Del Mar Real Estate There are limited places at the beach when dogs can frolic (unleashed, even, from Labor Day until June 18) with other dogs and their owners, and Dog Beach is undoubtedly the best known. I get questions from buyers frequently about where they can take their dogs, so having a place like Dog Beach to refer them to is great. You will see dogs, and owners, of all shapes and sizes and on a crowded day it's quite a sight.    Parking can get hairy on the weekends and especially during the summer, unless you are willing to walk a distance (on street parking is on t...

This fair is huge and always well attended (hey, who can beat $8 admission for all 3 days), with around 300 vendors (100,000 SF of exhibition space) offering wide array of antiques, including furniture, art, jewelry, china, glassware, sterling, lighting and vintage clothing.
