Since then the club has expanded and changed to meet the needs of Camarillo's children. Yes BMX bike enthusiasts, we are finally getting our BMX track. The city of Camarillo is opening its first BMX track before the end of October 2007. The only other local BMX bike track is located in Simi Valley, at Sycamore BMX. Camarillo's future BMX track is located at Freedom Park. The track is about 1,000 feet long and almost 30 feet wide and open for practice from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays in October. In January the track will open for competitions. The city of Camarillo plans to host local competitions, state and eventually national competitions. The California State's annual Standardized Testing and Reporting program, or STAR, results were released and Pleasant Valley School District, PVSD, has scored high. The STAR tests, test students in grades 2-12 in language arts and mathematics and rate them by percentage in one of five categories: advanced, proficient, basic, below basic and far below basic. According to a teacher at Camarillo Heights Elementary School and the Camarillo Acorn students at PVSD scored higher than all the other students in both Ventura County and the State of California. Camarillo's five year plan to beautify its Old Town has unexpectedly been delayed by up to two years by Taft Corporation.  They have plans to develop the Swedish Performance Auto Repair lot in Old Town Camarillo into a mixed use building. The lower level would house retail space while the upper level would include 10 townhouses. Although Taft Corporation has received an overwhelming interest in the retail spaces, the corporation still feels uneasy with the sales of the residential real estate portion of the project. The corporation's hesitation is the result of the slow housing market that has affected the whole country. This time 57 acres, owned by David and Rose Marie Lucchese, located off of Goldenspur Drive near Cerro Crest and Valley Vista drives are the center of attention.Mr. & Mrs. Lucchese proposal to the City of Camarillo for their 57 acres of agricultural land is to annex these unincorporated property and change the zoning from agriculture to residential. As I write this post one of Camarillo Heights' landmarks is fighting to hold up against the fire that engulfed this fascinating house about an hour ago.It is too early to know what caused this horrific fire, but whatever the cause it is a fire that destroyed this house to the ground. Fortunately the homeowner was not home at the time, but it took us a long time to find that out. Almost everyone that lives in Camarillo or has been to our home knows about this house. We all refer to it as the "statue house". The lady who owns this "statue house" is a clay sculptor and you could see her work all over the exterior of her house.
