As I drove down Big Bear Blvd on Wednesday I couldn't help but notice that the snow was gone, the sky's were crystal clear, and the flowers are blooming. Winter in Big Bear is now behind us and one of my favorite parts of the year is here. No more tire chains, no more icy roads, and no more sub freezing temperatures.  With the beautiful spring weather in Big Bear, we also find some great deals on real estate. With real estate prices hovering at 2003 levels and interest rates as low as 3.75%, how could you not afford to buy that weekend get a way that you've been dreaming about for years. We all remember how it was in 2006 when prices were so high and you had to pay so much for so little. Those days are behind us now!  In the past, prices fell but interest rates escalated. Not this time!...

I saw a great documentary called Thrive the other night that has definitely given me lots to think about.  It confirmed a lot of what I've been saying about our current mortgage mess, but it goes even deeper and higher up the food chain than I usually go. If you are suffering through a financial crisis, or a medical crisis, you owe it to yourself to check it out.  You can find out more at www.thrivemovement.com.   My resolution after seeing it is to establish a better relationship with Big Bear's local bank to refer my clients for mortgage loans, and work on establishing a network of credit unions and smaller banks to work with.   If you represent a local bank that does mortgages, please contact me so I can learn more about your programs.

Most of these styles are pretty standard throughout the real estate industry, however, there are a few local terms that I thought might be beneficial to share with you.  What was interesting to me was that more than half of the homes in our current MLS were placed in the wrong architectural category.  I'm not throwing my local members under the bus, but I couldn't believe how inaccurate this category ended up being under my search.GAMBREL STYLE:Well known for it's barn style shape roof, there are different variations to this type of construction in our area of Big Bear.  This type of home was popularized in the 1960's and 1970's by several well known local builders.  In the 1960's Hillcrest Construction (where Butcher's Block is) would advertise on their lumber yard these affordable hom...

Question? It's early September and I'm leaving my Big Bear cabin for the night, but plan to be back tomorrow.  Do I have to winterize the cabin before I leave? You don't have to winterize but I strongly recommend that any time you leave your Big Bear cabin after September 1st, even for a night that you do winterize it.  So many times you get down the hill and something comes up and you aren't able to get back to Big Bear.  Now, your cabin is sitting unprotected from the cold and it may be a month or longer before you are able to return. We've had two feet of snow as early as October 1st so you should always be prepared.  This morning is a perfect example of how quickly things can change in Big Bear.  When I went to bed last night, there was no mention of snow in the forecast.  It was co...
