 PEERS April Fool's Day Ball   The PEERS folks are at it again, offering delightful dances and the chance to dress up in vintage clothing.   This time they are celebrating Galavant’s April Fool's Day Ball on Saturday, April 1, at the Alameda Elks Lodge at 2255 Santa Clara Avenue in Alameda. You’ll dance to English country dance music and actual Medieval and Renaissance music and more.  You are encourages to wear Medieval, Renaissance or Fantasy costume but not required to do so. Doors open at 6:30 pm and complimentary dance lessons are offered at 7:00. Tickets are $25.00 at the door.  The Period & Events Entertainment Re-Creation Society otherwise know as PEERS, offers the change to dress up and dance at the Park or in the Grand Ballroom of the Alameda Elks monthly.    Island City Opera present the opera Don Quichotte an adaption of Cervantes’ Don Quixote by Jules Massenet on on March 1, 3, 5 10 and 12.  The French opera is the story of a chivalrous knight and his love for a shallow young woman and his quest to find the thieves who stole her jewelry and restore the jewelry to Dulcinee. The comedy stars Buffy Bagott as the lovely but shallow Dulcinee and Bill Pickersgil as the aging Don Quichotte which will be previewed on March 1 at 7:30p.  Opening night on Friday, March 3 at 7:30pm and on Friday, March 10 at 7:30 pm.  There will be a Sunday Matinee on arch 5 at 2:00 pm and a closing matinee on Sunday, March 12th at 2:00 pm.  Tickets may be purchased at 510-263-8060 or Islandcityopera.org.  The Elks Lodge Ballroom will be the venue for the performa...

R. R. Alameda city council rejects a proposal to rescind Del Monte project Alameda City council rejects a proposed to rescind Del Monte project’s prior approval.  The vote by the council was unanimous.  Mayor Spencer, who put the rescission discussion on the council’s agenda, voted against the repeal, saying concerns about the project could be addressed by the council in other way,” according to the Alamedan.   DEL MONTE DEVELOPMENT MAP According to the Alamedan, Council members Marilyn Essy Ashcraft and Tony Daysog said they felt that even though there are concerns about the project, repealing the project did not outweigh the risk of rescinding the prior council’s approval.   As You Like It is coming to the Alameda Free Library.  The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival’s Shakespeare On Tour production will be on Saturday, December 13 at the Main Library Branch at 2:00 pm.     As You Like It is one of Shakespeare’s comedies which centers on antics of Rosalind, Orlando, Celia and Touchstone as they deal with love, loss and redemption.  After the performance the cast will participate in a question and answer session with the audience.         This touring production offers costumed professional actors, sets, props and music to enhance the 55 minute version of the play.
