Grateful that my dad is well taken care of at 97!I am so happy that my old dad is able to live in his own home in Vancouver, and he has good care and good caregivers.  Since I live on Maui, it's not so easy to just pop in and help out.  He used to spend a lot of time with us here on Maui, but now traveling isn't so easy.The health system in Canada has been great lately when he needed to be hospitalized for a whole month due to problems that are typical for an old man at this stage of his life.  I was up there the whole time and got a good look at the level of care and treatment, and can say I have no complaints.  He was in good hands the whole time, even during surgery.  The best part was... no crippling bill!  Shout out to Mt. St. Joseph Hospital which is part of St. Paul's Hospital - ...

I'm on an extended trip to Canada which brings me to Thanksgiving which is just around the corner.  It feels like winter is also around the corner up here with the maple leaves falling to the ground and a chill at night.  There's already snow in some parts! Whenever I encounter a reno and especially an addition to or extension of the floor area, I always encourage my clients to visit the municipal offices and do some data mining. It’s important to know that the renovation was done in compliance to code requirements and with a competent contractor. The municipality will have on-file the following permits: building, electrical, plumbing, heating, drainage and sprinklers.
