So here we are, spending the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend at Tigh-na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort and Conference Centre in Parksville on the east side of beautiful Vancouver Island about 100 miles above Victoria BC. This is one resort that is hard to beat! To quote the resort, "Gaelic for "House by the Sea" Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort & Conference Centre is an all-season destination featuring 192 unique log constructed accommodation units, three restaurants and an award-winning spa." This morning we arose to a gorgeous sunny day and, following breakfast, we walked the dogs along the beach where the sandbar can be out as far as 1/2 mile. Kids love this beach. The Restaurant is spacious and serves fabulous food. The Spa is world class. There is a large gazebo down at the water's edge--gre...

The Parksville and Qualicum Beach market is settling in to its laid back fall season. One now has time on sunny weekend afternoons with no appointments or open houses scheduled, to drive up to Mount Arrowsmith to view the flood of fall colors and pick pine and chantrelle mushrooms while getting a much needed dose of mountain fresh air and the quiet tranquility that comes from foraging in the forest.

All that was built was done from scratch. No plans, just ideas and good old experience as their guide. As the years past the homes that all these Jacks built withstood the tests of the elements and time. A little adjustment here and there in techniques and materials made the homes warmer, drier, and some say better for the average Joe. One night after a major storm a whole bunch of Joes who bought all the Jacks homes woke up to sopping wet floors!  Jack was gone, leaving Joe holding the bag and crying the blues! Along came Super Dave (Barrett) with a plan to solve everyone's woes.  The Home...

Something happened here on Vancouver Island in the real estate world that just doesn't happen very often here. It was a real estate auction. A condo project in Parksville which completed about a year ago didn't completely sell out. It is 'The Onyx', an upscale development at Craig Bay. Reports are that its developer wanted to move on to his next project. But first he needed a way to sell the five remaining unsold units. The words 'unreserved auction' would scare the daylights out of many owners, but not this developer. It was his way to move ahead, so he put it in the capable hands of Ritchie Bros. The auction went ahead on Saturday, June 21. Reports are that about 200 people registered for the sale. It was all history in under an hour. The developer was happy. And so were the buyers, w...
