Sales of New Homes Rise 7.9% in August -- Department of Commerce According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, sales of new homes in the U.S. rose 7.9% in August.  That represents the fastest growth since the beginning of the year.  The Commerce Department said that sales were on the increase in three of the four U.S. regions.  By region, monthly New Home Sales rose 19.6% in the Midwest, 15.3% in the South and 8.8% in the Northeast. Sales fell, however, 14.6% in the West.
