There are a few real estate models in Sun City West that Del Webb specifically created to accomodate a casita on the homesite at time of construction, the Barcelona, the Prescott and sometimes the Flagstaff.  Casita is Spanish for little house.  A casita is a detached guest house was constructed in front of the property with a common wall that attached to the main home.  Not all prospective homeowners took advantage of having the casita added to the property due to the cost associated with constructing a casita. A Sun City West casita is unique due to its huge courtyard that separates the casita from the main home.  The courtyard provides both the homeowner and the guest exceptional privacy. I just posted the 2nd quarter sales figures for Corte Bella real estate. As I said in an earlier post, home sales in Corte Bella have picked up. Part of this is due to a greater number of short sales and foreclosures which mean lower sales prices. For the future health of this gated community though, we need to see this inventory reduction. It's a tough pill to swallow for current homeowners trying to sell, but is ultimately necessary for Corte Bellas' real estate market recovery. Awhile back I did a blog article on restaurants in Sun City West, AZ. At the time I neglected to include a beautiful restaurant that provides a fine dining experience, located in the gated country club retirement community of Corte Bella. Because Corte Bella is a gated community, non-residents may not realize they are welcome to eat at the Anacapa Restaurant. In fact, restaurant management would LOVE your patronage. If you haven't had the opportunity to visit the community you will be in for a treat. Just tell the guard at the gate that you wish to have lunch/dinner at the Anacapa Restaurant. The guard will then give you a visitors pass and you are on your way. Outdoor living is probably one of the biggest draws for people moving to the desert southwest. And many of us put a great deal of thought into how we want our own private oasis to look. I know I did. My husbands & my first Thanksgiving here, after our move from Washington state, was spent with family over in Scottsdale... on the back patio, next to the pool w/ water feature, under palm trees and amongst hibiscus and overlooking Lake Serena in Scottsdale Ranch. The sun was setting across the lake with a reflection of the sunset in the water. I got my first taste of what an Arizona backyard SHOULD be. This was paradise! I just made it easier to find foreclosures in Sun City West, AZ. Little by little I have been adding to my website and this morning I created a separate search category to pull up the foreclosure listings (and short sales) in Sun City West. A couple of weeks ago I had added Sun City West's Corte Bella foreclosures, along with foreclosures in Sun City Grand & Sun City Festival. While this is an unfortunate sign of the times in our recent market, it provides an outstanding opportunity for buyers to pick up their retirement/vacation getaway home at a great price. You have to be ready to jump on the nice ones when they come on the market though. We are experiencing multiple offers, and in some cases bidding wars, on the really great deals. 06/19/2009

Last summer I first wrote about a dance class in Sun City West I had heard of called Dance for the Health of It. At the time there were just a couple of classes being conducted in Sun City West and a few in some of the surrounding areas. On Saturday I was bowling in Sun City West and one of my husbands customers mentioned she has been taking this dance class and having a lot of fun while getting fit and learning how to dance. Apparently she isn't the only one because, due to the popularity, there are many more classes being offered now, both on the west side and the east side. What an excellent way to stay active, AND have fun, during our hot summer months. Way back when I was in my 20's I bowled on a league team and had loads of fun. Well this weekend I had a chance to bowl for the first time in years at the Johnson Lanes in Sun City West. My husband, who is the manager of the Fletcher Music Center in Sun City West, was treating a number of his customers and employees to a night of bowling fun. I was invited to join in and eventually found my groove. That doesn't mean my score was very good... but I WAS able to roll my share of strikes and spares. More than anything though was the great time we had watching the shimmies, shakes and other various antics people used to entice those pins to fall.
