Glassford Hill is a prominent landmark. It is located on the west side of Prescott Valley and is adjacent to the Granite Dells area northeast of Prescott. Glassford Hill was formed by volcanic action and the lava cone is still identifiable as the castle in the canyon leading a Prescott Valley neighborhood being named Castle Canyon Mesa. Here is a view of Castle Canyon from the east in Prescott Valley. Here is an aerial view showing Glassford Hill from above. The lava cone "castle" is in the right third of the photo.   Glassford Hill is the former site of a U.S. Army Heliograph Station in the 1880s. The Army from nearby Fort Whipple uset the sun mirrors and Morse Code to communicate with other U.S. Army outposts.

On this day I say Thank You!  I am ever grateful to family, to friends, to all of those who have supported me in my real estate career and who continue to provide a constant stream of referrals--those wishing to buy or sell homes in the Prescott, Arizona area. While this platter is empty, it will soon be filled with mouth watering fare and our table will come alive with the sounds of laughter, the tinkling of forks on plates, the clink of glasses, the aroma of yummy food and the feeling of good cheer.  We always raise our glasses to toast those who are no longer with us but forever in our hearts and we unabashedly share memories of family and friends, bringing the past back to our present. This platter was my Grandmother's and was passed on to my Mom who has passed it on to me as she d...

As I am representing a Buyer for recreational/getaway property near Prescott, Arizona, We recently had an inspection done. It appears that the inspector may have put my escrow in jeopardy and not served the Buyer well by the way he wrote the inspection report. Most home inspectors will not do inspections of alternate energy systems as the technology changes rapidly and many of the companies who service and install such systems are relatively new. In rural areas such a Prescott, it is common for additional inspections to be done on the alternate energy systems as well as well as septic systems and water wells. These inspectors are generally not members of ASHI and do not necessarily abide by the same code of conduct and business practice. I was with the solar inspector when he did the in...

Tea Party Power ALIVE & WELL! My friend and fellow Patriot, Darla Dawald, wrote this blog post and I feel it is worth sharing. Dear Patriots and Friends,It's been an amazing adventure for the past nearly four years working in this movement with all of you.. Here at PAN we started in January of 2009 planning a march on DC with subsequent Tea Parties at State Capitols around the country. Now hundreds if not thousands of you are engaged in the process. Some are running for office, some have taken complete control of the their local GOP or Pachyderm groups, some are immersed in assisting campaigns, some became PCs, some are using the net and blogging, some have written songs and perform nationally, and some make calls and forward emails to everyone they can. Either way, you are more involve...

Walker, Arizona is an old mining community south of COSTCO at Highway 69 in Prescott, Arizona. There is a plaque in Walker with the following inscription:"This town site was named after Capt. Joseph R. Walker who discovered gold here  in 1863.  At the peak of activity, Walker had a population of 3,000."The "town" of Walker lies on either side of Lynx Creek. Water from Lynx Creek flows through Walker then through Lynx Lake, then to Fain Lake in Prescott Valley and finally into the Agua Fria River near Dewey, Arizona. Gold was found throughout the Lynx Creekbed. This photo was taken at the corner of Pine Mountain and Sheldon Roads. The name is "140 mailboxes" but I never counted the mailboxes. This intersection is at the end of the pavement on Walker Road, approximately seven miles south o...

These two lakes belong to the City of Prescott. These lakes are fed by Banning Creek which eventually flows into Granite Creek in Prescott. Upper Goldwater Lake is on the right while Lower Goldwater Lake is on the left in this photo. Here is a photo showing the upper end of Upper Goldwater Lake. See my blog post listing the lakes in the Prescott Area.

Lynx Lake is one of the largest and most popular lakes in the Prescott Area. This photo was taken from the Overlook near the Lynx Lake Cafe. There is a nice hiking trail that runs all the way around the lake. This trail is often close on the east side to protect Bald Eagles that nsometimes nest there.   Here is the "Welcome" sign at Lynx Lake. Note that Lynx Lake was built by the Fish and Game Department using fishing license money. I think this lake is the best fishing in the Prescott Area. It also has campgrounds administered by the US Forest Service, Prescott National Forest.   Here is an aerial view of Lynx Lake. It is located south of Highway 69 in Prescott on Walker Road. Notice that this view shows roads in the lower Lynx Lake Campground and a portion of the roads in the upper ca...

Prescott has many lakes. They are quite small by most people's standards but what they lack in size they make up in beauty. Here is an aerial view that shows two of the lakes. Willow Lake has a nice trail on the southwest half of the lake. There is no trail on the northeast half of Willow Lake because the Granite outcroppings there are too rugged for most hikers. Most of the land surrounding both Watson (on the right) and Willow (on the left) Lakes is owned by the City of Prescott. Highway 89 runs alongside Watson Lake and to the east side of Willow Lake. The fairways of The Prescott Lakes Golf Course can be seen at the lower left of this photo. Goldwater Lakes   Amenities include: 15-acre lake with fishing docks Boat launch ramp~no gasoline motors~electric only Outstanding for canoeing...

Here are some pictures of Willow Lake. There is a nice trail that runs around most of Willow Lake. There is no trail through the massive granite outcroppings in the Granite Dells.    Willow Lake is nearly full in this photo.   The photo above shows a colony of Blue Herons in the big trees on the west side of Willow Lake. From this photo one might believe that there are swamps near Prescott. Such is not the case. It is high desert here. Willow Lake is quite shallow and makes a great place for the Herons to find food. This photo was taken when the lake was absolutely full. The photo above is an aerial view of Willow Lake. Highway 89 is at the extreme lower right in this photo. The dam is at the upper center of the photo on the right. See my post about all the lakes in Prescott here.

Granite Basin Lake is located about 15 minutes from Prescott, in North Central Arizona. Located in the Prescott National Forest, it is adjacent to the Granite Mountain Wilderness Area. Construction begain on the dam in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and was completed in 1939. The Raft, a segment of the movie Creepshow 2, was filmed here. Granite Basin Lake is the headwaters of Mint Wash which flows around the east side of Granite Mountain. There are some excellent trails in the area. This little lake is little known but quite a gem. It is the starting point for a magnificent hiking trail that leads to the crest of Granite Mountain. It also feeds Mint Wash. There are several mostly equestrian trails that lead northward along Mint Wash on the east side of Granite Mountain. Here a...

Here are my photos of Watson Lake. I sometimes get asked if there are any lots on the lakes. I don't see any place to build here. The land surrounding Watson Lake is owned by the City of Prescott, so there is no land for sale here. The photo above is looking across Watson Lake showing Glassford Hill in the background. Glassford Hill is an extinct volcano. Of course, Granite Dells are of volcanic origin, as well.   This photo was taken from a hill across Highway 89. The only boat dock is slightly visible near the lower right side of the photo. Glassford Hill is visible in the distance. On a clear day the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff can be seen from high ground.   This photo shows the ruggedness of the rock outcroppings surrounding and in the middle of Watson Lake. The gray rocks i...
