Max Karl Ernst was born back in 1858 near Kiel, Duchy of Holstein to Johann and Emma. The family moved to Munich in 1867 when Max enrolled in the Maximilians Gymnasium school where he caught the attention of Hermann Muller who taught him astronomy and mechanics as well as mathematics. He was talented graduating at the tender age of 17. He was interested in the field of physics where he began his studies in 1874 at the University of Munich. In 1877 he enrolled at the Friedrich Wilhelms University for a year of study. He briefly taught mathematics and physics in Munich. In 1885 he was an associate professor and within four years he was a full professor. He was so knowledgeable he was invited to discuss his theory at Columbia University in New York City.
