Monte Sano State Park Huntsville AlabamaIn many of my blog posts I mention Monte Sano State Park and it's convenient location to neighborhoods in and around Madison and Huntsville Alabama.  The following features photos of the park and the many things to do there.Monte Sano in Spanish means "Mountain of Health" and Monte Sano State park is a 2,400 acre park rising 1600 feet above sea level on Monte Sano Mountain.  The park provides 14 miles of hiking & biking trails.  Bird watching is also popular on the mountain. At the entrance to Monte Sano State Park is the guard booth.  Occasionally there is no one there and the Honor Box collects the minimal fees.  On my weekday visit it cost $2 per person.  The park was built in the late 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps established by Fr... 09/29/2010

Huntsville Alabama Huntsville Botanical Garden 35805 Today was rainy in Huntsville Alabama and probably not the optimum day to visit the Huntsville Botanical Garden for quality of light, but I don't think there is really a bad day to visit the the gardens so off I went. The Huntsville Botanical Garden is a 112 acre island of paradise in the middle of a city known for it's high tech companies, missile defense and dedication to space travel. Its a sad day for Arena Football fans in Huntsville, Alabama. It is confirmed that our team, the Alabama Vipers will be moving to Atlanta and become the Georgia Force. The Vipers will make the announcement at the Gwinett Center in Georgia on Monday. While the Vipers had a solid core of fans, Huntsville was the smallest market in the 15-team Arena Football League. Vipers' new home, the 11,000-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, is almost double the size of the VBC and gives the league a foothold in the lucrative Atlanta sports market. One of our favorite things to do in North Alabama in the Fall is go to Tate Farms! It is a MUST for any family. They will be opening their doors on September 27, 2010!!!! Tate Farms is located just North of Huntsville, Alabama. They have an unbelievable 60 acres of pumpkins, barnyard playground, petting zoo, a Country Store (that sells unbelievable Fall flowers and decorations) and lots more. Tate Farms Cotton Pickin' Pumpkins is one of the largest farming operations in Northern Alabama, with more than 5,000 acres of crop land. They have a wonderful hayride into the pumpkin "patch" with a driver that teaches you things you had no idea about. I came across more news about Alabama today, Alabama schools are awaiting their AP (Advanced Placement) test results as they had put Alabama first in the nation in improved student performance!  According to the article it showed student had a 17.7% increase in the number of students scoring a passing grade on AP tests. It also stated that the State also showed significant improvement in the total number of students taking the tests, as well as the number of minority students participating, and their scores. As a parent to 4 children in school, I have to say I am impressed! The kids come home every night with homework...homework that I hardly understand. I know that this may be somewhat of a political post but I just need to get this off my chest. Why doesn't someone in the Government know how actually help/fix the real estate/housing problems? You know, it went from one extreme where anyone and everyone could get a loan and buy a home (which they couldn't afford) to making it almost impossible to get a loan. There are some really lame ideas of what would fix the whole recession we are in. Two things that come into mind right now are: 1.  The FHA proposing the new mortgage insurance premium structure for new case numbers effective on October 4th. This proposal means a smaller loan amount because upfront frees will be lower, but the monthly payment will be higher due to higher PMI payments.
