Grilling Salmon without foil a delicious mistake

So I am by no means a grilling expert, I just bought my first grill this weekend. It is one of the nice ones with one side propane and the other charcoal and a side burner. So of course I was fidgety to grill something and the only thing we had defrosted were some salmon halves. Unfortunately we did not have any foil to lay on the grill for the fish so they did not fall apart. I decided to take my wife's cast iron pot and stick it on the grill and put the fish in that on some marinade and a little nonstick spray. Eight minutes later we had healthy simulated fried fish that was crispy and mostly cooked in the salmons natural fat. Needless to say I do not want fish any other way. What is your favorite grilling recipe? Have you ever turned a problem into an opportunity?
