If you want to change the accountability start with working on changing the culture. The best way to create an accountability culture is to help people to accept accountability. The best way to accomplish this is by motivating them to be accountable. Understanding what motivates a person, whether it be rewards, recognition, promotion, or feeling that something is accomplished will result in developing that accountability attitude. However, you will have continued failure if you do nothing and refuse to hold people accountable for results. How does a manager hold members of the staff responsible for performance? What about an employee who needs help but fears asking for help? The results can be devastating when we fail to have accountability discussions. Having an accountability discussio...

Fall in October has a certain kind of vibe that makes you sniff the air and realize, change is in progress. Some favorite scents include: Cinnamon Apple Cinnamon Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Spiced Cider Cinnamon Pumpkin Butter Chai Tea Latte Pumpkin Chai Pumpkin Spice Brown Sugar Vanilla Apple, Cinnamon, and Honey Nutmeg Cloves Sliced Oranges Sandalwood Bonfire Smoked Fire Wood Amber Wood Musk Toasted Marshmallows Fresh Baked Bread Homemade Cookies The freshest scent of all is the Outdoor Scent and anything with leaves. Natural outdoor fragrance beats manufactured candles with artificial scents and the next best thing to spice up your life in Fall indoors is to use Cold Air Diffusion which leaves no residue. It pays to keep a safe, clean home environment that is free of Common carcinogens Fo...

If you have a fireplace in your house, it’s going to draw the attention of anyone who walks into the room where it’s located. This is fine if you want your fireplace to be a focal point, but if it’s less than impressive, you might want your guests looking pretty much anywhere else. Even if there aren’t any significant issues with your fireplace, you may not like the way that it fits in with the rest of your furnishings. Is there anything that you can do? Yes, actually, there are several ways that you can spruce up your fireplace and get it in the sort of shape that will have you wanting to show it off. While some options may depend on the type of fireplace you have and how you decorate the surrounding room, you should be able to find some way to improve the look of your fireplace tha...

Should You Sell or Should You Remodel Your Home?Your home, as they say, is where your heart is, and for so many homeowners, it’s a lot more than a saying. Their home is a place where they made so many memories with family and friends, and considering selling it can be extremely painful. But what do you do if your home is no longer meeting your needs? Can you simply remodel your home into the house you need? It’s a hard decision to make, to be sure, but there are some major considerations that can help you decide which is the right choice for you and your family. How Close Is Your Home to Perfect? Sometimes, the changes you need to make your home right for today are small. For example, if you’re planning on aging in place, but all the bedrooms are upstairs, you might be able to add a sma...

On the way home from a walk in the park I decided show Timmothy & Carol some unusual homes I drove by earlier. Carol spotted this thing in a backyard that I assume some artist made about 50 years ago out of pipe and farm equipment disks. I suppose originally it was made for potted plants... and then came along another artist who most likely didn't have a green thumb.I am further guessing that the rock they put on the first disk had an extreme gravitational pull to it. Here is another close up of a different disk.

It is October Contest time, and Aura Alex, Leanne Smith, and Carol Williams are co-hosting this month's ActiveRain Challenge. They are asking us to share our favorite blogging success stories, of which I have many. Just search 'blogging success HomeRome' to come up with more. There are a lot of naysayers who believe blogging isn't effective anymore. These same naysayers have said many things do not work. And sometimes they are right. So glad I didn't listen to them. Some of the things that they say don't work or are not worth the time are as follows:Blogging is a waste of time. You can't drive a two-door car.No one listens to the radio.Print media no longer works because of the internet.One-hour open houses don't work. You can't make appointments, service, and show all your properties. You ...

When shopping around for a mortgage loan or any type of loan you should keep this in mind:A loan query as it relates to mortgages refers to the act of someone applying for a new loan. On its face there's nothing really derogatory about that. After all, consumers apply for new loans every day. Some might make an application but decide they didn't want the loan after all.First, there are two basic types of loan queries - a hard query and a soft query. What's the difference? A hard query is a direct request by a consumer or a lender to view a credit report in regard to an application made. A soft query is one where a lender, often a new credit card, runs a soft query when deciding whether or not they want to extend to you an offer for a new credit card and/or a personal loan. A soft query ...

So the other day, I am searching for a movie to watch. I stumbled across "I love you, man". What I was pleasantly surprised about is that the central character is actually a real estate agent. Even better? It makes fun of certain narcissistic agents like one may see on a certain "reality" TV show. So here are a couple clips for those of you more focused on your clients and good service instead of an "image":(sorry for the language)

Meet Awesome Cloud. In Santa Fe, NM when clouds come over the mountains, they have a different story to tell. This cloud appeared over the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range on a day in late July. It was not a typical cloud by any means. It was a cloud created by the movement of the Hermits Peak & Calf Canyon fire still burning far to the east of Santa Fe. Two weeks ago, fire crews were still cleaning up the land and northern New Mexico communities damaged and in some places destroyed. Three days ago, the U.S. Senate passed a spending bill that included 2.5B for the Hermits Peak & Calf Canyon Fire victims. Hopefully it will quickly pass the House of Representatives so President Biden will sign it into law. Over 300,000 acres were burned when the U.S. Forest Service began a prescribed burn ...

Enjoying Some Weekend Time With Tristan!I am blessed to have Tristan overnight every Friday while my son works.  We do a lot together.  If I have to show property or write a contract, Rick will take Tristan to the pool or on a walk. Every Friday evening, if Tristan has been good, we watch a movie.  He looks forward to some popcorn with the movie.  We watched Hocus Pocus on Friday.  He is looking forward to seeing Hocus Pocus 2 this coming Friday! I told Tristan that we would make some banana bread last week, so I got all the ingredients, and we did this together yesterday.  He does enjoy helping me.  It is all about giving him new and different experiences and skills he can use later in life. The quotes below fit anyone who has little ones in their lives.  For many years, Rick and I were...

Homeowners today have more financial strength than they have had since 1983. This is a combination of how homeowners have handled equity since the crash and the rising home prices of the last two years. And this is yet another reason homeownership in any market makes sense.   1.5KSHARES 1.2K 90 15 181 The real estate market is on just about everyone’s mind these days. That’s because the unsustainable market of the past two years is behind us, and the difference is being felt. The question now is, just how financially strong are homeowners throughout the country? Mortgage debt grew beyond 10 trillion dollars over the past year, and many called that a troubling sign when it happened for the first time in history. Recently Odeta Kushi, Deputy Chief Economist at First American, answered th...

Anyone who has watched HGTV has seen many shows where a couple or a team flip homes. They then will turn around and sell the home to make a profit. It seems like an excellent way to make money. However, a person needs to have a strong understanding of real estate to get started and the right connections and knowledge to know what to do. With that in mind, house flipping can become a sustainable career.Defining Home FlippingThe art of home flipping is done by purchasing a house that is often in poor condition, repairing it, renovating it, and then selling it to make a profit. It has become profitable for many, and for some, it is their dream career. With a mix of real estate knowledge, the funds to the ability to remodel, anyone could become a home flipper.Starting Home FlippingA home fl...
