Insurance used to be around .3% of valuation depending on coverage limits. Today it's closer to .5%. CA and FL are just plain ugly. I recommend an independent agent who can go to Chubb,  Citizens, Universal, Liberty, Security, Tower in FL and Chubb, Mercury, Travelers, Nationwide, Amica, USAA, or California Fair Plan (which is almost broke) in CA. Agents are licensed by state. I recommend Tor in CA and Hoffman in FL.   What independent broker do you recommend Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate

Problems caused by natural hazards and by excessive pipe leak claims... Insurance companies are corporations than do not pay state or federal income taxes-- they are considered a public service.  Don't get me started in capital letters.

These days in CA I refer those that are still writing homeowners policies here - many are in a self-imposed moratorium.

I have no idea what it costs, I've had the same State Farm policy since 1995, no one can touch my rate. It has covered different cars and houses over the years, and I have so many friends in the insurance industry that want my business but, they are $100's per month higher than what I pay for my 29 years old policy of loyalty.

Yes ours went up slightly BUT we found a new, experienced outstanding father/daughter company that gave us excellent insurance at a great price.  They came to us from a friend who also uses them.  AZ, thankfully doesn't have all the disasters other states might have so it's better cost wise here.

Q#1: Very Expensive and it is getting harder to get in CA.

Q#2: Yes.  I have them get a quote from my agent.

Q#3: Not as it relates to insurance.

Retired and living in Illinois. Everything here is expensive, high taxes, low services, high gas and groceries, high crime, but insurance has been reasonable thus far.

NC & SC are not top states as far as cost goes but, we pay $3,300/year for ours.

Year 1, you'll probably get a good quote from several companies. Each year thereafter, you really do have to shop around for the best deal. Liberty & Progressive have been most competitive in recent years for us. The best insurers likely vary from state-to-state too.

It's very pricy, auto seems to be higher lately too.  We have an insurance broker who shops for us so we don't have to do that.

Everyone has a different situation, so I am not sure about the rates. In my experience, most of my clients already have insurance relationships from their past.

Interesting GA is on the list. I don't feel like my insurance is that high and it's certainly not what the "list" shows as average, but then I live in a modest 2000 sq ft home.

My homeowner's insurance went up about 20% this year. Insurance is expensive in Ca. and numerous companies are no longer writing new policies. I tell my buyers to shop for insurance as soon as they get into contract.

I have AAA (CSAA) Arizona. My homeowner's insurance is lower than my truck insurance by about 20% and never filed a claim on either.

I do not recommend any particular company. Most of my clients have their carriers for multiple properties.

If asked, I'd say let's find out who seller uses and start there. They already know the property!

I feel that our homeowner's insuance fee is fair and the only concern is that Farmers Insurance Company will abandom the state here in California.  Our insurance agent is a good resource for our clients but I don't dictate that they use anyone.
