Of course! The sad truth is that most often those we try to help, won't put the work in to do what it takes to survive in the business.

Think about how many have 'started' blogging? Those of us who actively blog are truly a rare breed!

I do try to help any way I can.  It does come to a screeching halt.  I remember when I was a lender back in 1987 and rates spiked.  Phones went dead for over a month.  People were very panicky.

Hi Tony Lewis

When I started in this business, I had several mentors (two in my Coldwell Banker office, and a lender) who took me under their wing.

I remember them well...  "Fred, ride with me during caravan.  I can give you some pointers while we are riding".  "Fred, I saw you took a listing; that neighborhood is pretty tough to sell, can I offer you some suggestions?"  "Fred, always have your Buyer call me, I can pre-qualify them over the phone, you will know how much they can afford".

The advice I received was priceless.   So it's only fair that I go and do likewise!

That's sticky for me.  As a broker I'm really not allowed to interfere with the business of an agent under the umbrella of another broker and sometimes support can be seen as that.  I know where I can and can't based on who their broker is.

So many don't manage their business like a business and they'll soon leave.  I'll support anyone who asks for help and also know that success can come in any market condition. I started in this business in 2009...  Just sayin"  lol

Had this conversation with another broker yesterday in fact!

If the newer agent is respectful and will listen, sure.

If the newer agent thinks they know it all already or is disrespectful, nope!

The best time to get in to anything is when the incline is steep and nothing produced without major effort. Those rewards are hard learned lessons never forgotten. An agent who joins the real estate herd during an easy market and thinks it will always be this way spending commissions as fast as they come in will learn this that is not so. Life, real estate markets, health, love... they all take work and your eyes wide open planning for a downturn and surprises Tony Lewis

I've found the majority do not want nor appreciate assistance or help.  They prefer to whine about how hard it is and how they're suffering.  Or alternatively, they're doing everything right and still it's not working out for them and why the world is to blame.   I keep my head down and focus on my own paper!

Yes of course and have been doing so for many, many years.  Some are open to getting back to basics ...which is what it takes in any market.  Others...not so much and they typically move on to a paid job.

I created, developed and delivered training as well as creating the training infrastructure at firms as my prior career- so naturally I am willing to offer support in the form of training for newer real estate agents. That said- they have to seek me out, and be willing to make the effort when I give them specific tasks or exercises that will help them in their career. If they aren't willing or able to do this- then I can't invest my time into them.
