My house was worth 3X what I paid for it 6 years later.
It was worth 'slightly more than I paid' for it 10 years later.
It is now once again worth 3X what I paid for it 6 years after that.
That's called 'artificial funny money values'  . . .
What matters to me is that I have the tiniest sliver of debt I could pay off in 3 seconds if I wanted, and virtually all equity . . . some will again evaporate.
The home I built with my late husband is wayyyy too precious for me to even consider selling . . . the only thing that could ever change my mind is if too many new residents threaten to turn our state into something we left Cali for 30 years ago . . . and then I'll be living down the road from BB Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! LOL

Yes, I have wondered and yes, I am selling.  It is my last California property and it is time to let it go.  It might be less value than it was four months ago, but prices are still acceptable and probably better than they will be in another few months.

I would sell it in a minute if some fool would pay me what Zillow says it's worth. The buyers would no doubt be represented by an out-of-town agent (if they are represented at all) who hasn't a clue what our market values are. It's laughable.

Generally no, but it is fun to look at once in a while.  Looked at it last year after I finished some major remodeling.  3x in value from when I bought it 12 years ago.

No, would not sell.  I'd end up with a 3x property tax bill any place I went to and this one is almost paid off.  Would certainly buy another investment home, if I could get it at the right price.

Considering I just sold the apartment next to mine which is the near mirror image to my own apartment...yes I know what my apartment is worth. There are lots of adjustments to be made. While the value is significantly above what I paid (and would now need to worry about capital gains taxes if I sold), it's worth about 10% less than prior to Covid. That said, I don't see the value dropping too much more since we didn't have the price spikes that took place in many parts of the nation.  If I were to sell, it would have nothing to do with the market, and would be due to some sort of life change.
