They are working on that. The owner, Ben Kinney hired a team of developers to give AR a facelift bringing it into the current century among many other things that we expect will help improve the SEO. Unlikely we will ever again have the kind of Google Juice this site once had - mainly because of the number of sites and the competition. Use long-tail key phrases to improve your SEO.

There have been many of us complaining about the loss of "google juice" here in the Rain. And it seems to be decreasing all the time.

Hi Joe Kendall Broker I was just coming here to the Q&A to ask this very question. I remember way back when that my posts were almost always on the first page of google. A couple responses mentioned "long tail searches" I'm going to have to do some research on that.

Joe Kendall Broker while I am no longer looking to draw new business to me I still enjoy blogging here in/on Active Rain. After being retired for about 5 years my blogging is making my phone and email more active then they have ever been. My SEO is all due to my blogging and my FREE Google Business site. I can not over emphasize how valuable the FREE Google business site is.

Much has to do with the loss of the sites content power. However, a large shift has occurred in what google shows (more adspace, different ways the crawlers are indexing), along with the amount of dollars that have been spent by large corporations on SEO. Long tail searches are still king when it comes to competing with the big guys.

Look at the SERPs for almost anything... PAID CONTENT is king, and Big Names are right behind that.
Years ago, "Natural Search" ranked near the top. But today, almost every result on pages 1 and 2 is corporate, politically correct, or major players in whatever industry you are searching for.
This was predicted back in the day. Google, Bing/Yahoo, etc. are in it for the money.
Natural Search aka Organic Results would get pushed to the bottom. We are at that place now.

Invest your time and money into your own site and SEO. Why build up "the man's" stuff when you could take control of your own destiny and domain...
Every time you do blogs on here you are giving them more pull...just like REALTORS did with Zillow in 2014, 2015, 2016.

The bloggers providing fresh pertinent content helps the SEO and better written, more frequent blog posts with more substance erodes your exposure. If SEO was easy, everyone would be on top... there is a constant learning curve and make whatever you do worthwhile for the audience Joe Kendall Broker !

Over the years the prior owners did not keep up with changing times and SEO best practices. Ben Kinney, the current owner, is dedicated to improving this and has a team of developers on it. We hear from them pretty regularly and if you follow ActiveRain Dev they post updates there.

There's no question that AR's google-power has diminished over the years. All the more reason to make sure that your content is original, unique and consistent.
Posting "Keeping Current Matters" content (which is not original) won't get google's attention. Posting local community events, and specific content focused on local developments, neighbourhoods, and properties will.
And you can't just post every now and then... if you want google to crawl your content, it should be a few hundred words, or more... include photos, video (when possible... google loves video), and post regularly... daily, or weekly with consistency.
It's really easy to blame Active Rain... but take a truly objective look at your content and ask yourself "would the general consumer be interested in what I'm writing?", and if the answer is "no", then neither would google.

Joe, I'm no SEO guru, and I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night, but when I look at your blog, your title emphasis is on your name, with the same lead in the title before differentiating.
Maybe the Google bots are seeing your posts as duplicate content because of the title.
Additionally, are consumers going to search for Joe Kendall Keller Williams or are they going to long tail search: Cape Coral Homes for Sale with Water Access?
If someone is searching for you by name already, some other portion of your marketing has already worked. What you need for your business is to catch the attention of those who don't already know you by name. I'd recommend giving each post a unique title with more emphasis on your geography.

As Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate said, natural search is now over. We are supposedly working on SEO here but I'm not seeing much headway. Very depressing. We're getting new makeup but I'd prefer behind the scenes juice being played with.
I've noticed that many people that complain, really don't do a great job with titles or 'long tail' that google can gobble up.
