I'd say 98-100 percent of current licensees would pass a basic psych-eval to work in real estate.

O.k., seriously, I would be in favor of testing for a much higher level of professional competency, and those that pass would more than likely (compared to past training & testing) have the needed mindset that is conducive to real estate professionalism.

I'll have to "circle back" on this question!

There are professions with reputations for mental illness.

So far I have not heard any for this group.

One of those things that must be measured.  What are the standards?

Who sets the standards? Who tracks the standards and results? 

Who decides who stays and who goes? 

No thanks, sounds too much like what we are dealing with in the political-government arena today.  

Let's live and let live. 

Let the crazy go nuts. 

Let those who want to judge others all the while claiming "no judgment" continue their non-judgmental judgment as they self-proclaim their greatness. 

I think to STAY in this business, you have to have some mental issues.  To put up with some clients!

I know the question is a 'for the fun of it' type, but is serious enough to be kept on the radar.
Mental Fitness is a 'cloud' subject to interpretation by those in control. Dangerous. In a courtruom mental disturbance is interpreted to feeling emothon. Big Pharma has a solution for every emotion. It has only gotten worse from the day Prozac Nation was declared.
We face a tsunami of mental health issues as a byproduct of the public education system. Mental Fitness is going to be hard to define.
How many REALTORS are menally mis-fit to go and stab someone? Zero
How many REALORS may feel the urge? 100%
What keeps the gate closed between the two? Happy Hour.
What do you think of this "go-no go" test. New and old angents need to be hammered on the thumb. What ever comes out of their mouth as a consequence determins if their heart is suitble for a licenced profession.
From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, most certainly when pain is expereinced.
How many would submit to that mental fitness test?

I just don't pay attention to what other agents are doing.  I don't pal around with them, I just do business with them when our paths cross.  Having said that, I do wonder why everyone wants to go into real estate when they can't seem to do anything else like get a regular job.  I hear that all the time. Then they talk about it endlessly but don't do it.  Probably--oh my goodness--there's education involved and then a test and, if they get that far, now the fees pile on.  Hindsight? We are all nuts to get into this business and those of us who are MORE nuts stay in--and prosper!!!

I think when getting the license, most would pass a mental fitness screening. But I think when getting renewed, the results might not be as good.

Mental fitness is elusive terminology. We have agents in our area that have limited English skills.

Bettet to test those with delusions of grandeur who seek to lord their agenda over others with useless testing.

Come on, Man, came to mind but, being late to the party, I thought I would read the other comments. More often than not, Chris Ann Cleland and I are on the same page...and we are once again!

Before or after getting the license? Maybe if you had to get one of those tests every time you renew the results may show a dwindling

What lies in wait inside people? The story of their life for the good and not so good...No two alike, mystery guranteed and who knows, some of our answers may be there too. We remain similar but unique. Gems hidden inside dust

2 Skill/Knowledge

Both very important for a Realtor but way different skill sets

This depends if screening was performed by peers or independently. A peer review would have 100% passage while independents would probably fail half of the group.

The Real Estate business does not make me crazy...I have no problem with my clients...

What I do have a problem with is dumb agents...

Most get in this business because they think that the money tree will sprout more money.

Does anyone read the statistics?  My local board says 36% of realtors did not close a single transaction last year.

When money is tight and the mortgage is due, the agents will do anything to close a deal...that means lie, cheat and misrepresent!
