We have Verizon landline, and I just use my cell phone for long distance calls.

IMHO, if you want to minimize cost, AT&T is not the best option. If you have internet installed you may want to consider VOIP. www.nettalk.com offers landline service for $39.95/YEAR, with additional mandatory gov fees comes to a little under $52/year, umlimited local and long distance calling.  I have used them for several years and no complaints. And btw, no, I do not get any dollars or perks for the recommendation.

I don't know what AT&T offers, but my service - which was Verizon, then sold to Frontier, and now sold to Ziply - has a monthly charge that covers long distance within the U.S. It's about $78 per month.

Our phone lines are too old for high speed Internet service, so we have (ugh) Hughes Net. It is far too slow to use for phone. Since covid it is almost as slow as my old dial-up. It pays to have a book handy so there's something to do while you wait for a page to load.

What's long distance?  I haven't seen those charges in a LONG time.  I use Magicjack for my landline phone service, no long distance charges.  All VoIP.

my landline is via my cable company and costs 29.95 a month with unlimited state to state calling (I do not have a plan that includes foreign calls, nor intend to make them)

Wow you're pretty far out of reach.  Good luck with getting AT&T to set it up so you get decent service.

I moved to Comcast (Xfinity) for phone, internet and cable some years ago.

Plenty of choices here in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Making FLORIDA Real Estate EZ

This weekend in my slice of Florida Paradise, the T-mobile network was all I had since Spectrum internet was down or extremely limited all weekend. Even the physical lines can be compromised.
But you are in a situation where only one choice is available.
I trust this limitation was DISCLOSED when you purhcased the house.
Just be aware, the more intermediaries you place between you in the audience, the greater the complication and potential for things to go wrong. VOIP seems the best option to avoid long distance calls. Choose carefully. Load balanceing of these providers often result in poor quality.(Translation: don't get into a contract until you have had ample testing opportunities.)
What happens when those responding to your marketing attempt to send a text message to your published telephone land line?

Last landline service was termonated in 2016. At that time long distance was ten cents a minute. And we never used it. Good luck!

Fred- whatever you end up doing, I hope you'll let us know what ended up working for you. When we first moved to Leesburg VA in 2004 our cell service was awful.  We had a landline. Thankfully, Verizon added FIOS to our neighborhood.

Fred,

What an interesting question.  We have not had a landline since we moved from Napa. It took a while to get some internet,  We had a sattelite dish installed that helped.  I wish you all the best...A

WOW! I never thought of that, Fred! We got rid of our landline a few years ago and I still do miss it. We never made long distance calls on it - well, since early 2000's anyway!

I'll stay tuned to see what others share though.

I have a long-distance plan with AT&T. It does not cover international because I do not make international calls.  I do not like VOIP it is unreliable. That is why I pay the expense of having stand-alone landline, cable, cell, etc.

Dump ATT, go with VOIP, much cheaper or free.

We use Google Voice on the computers, and it links to the cell phones too.
