If someone does not use social media for business and there is a reason, the reason may be that their target demo does not choose to consume via social media . . . I get FAR more mileage in my CRE practice from a large back cover ad in our regional economic development journal. That's where my sellers are and they like to see that tangible collateral of marketing efforts. 

My FB business page and boosted posts are often shared and occasionally criticized by people who can't afford what I am selling . . . but it makes sellers happy to know that the word is out . . . does it sell properties? Not much. 

My people don't buy buildings via FB . . . funny that we put one under contract a couple months ago and the buyer's wife texted me, the (pending) post ended up in her husband's feed and he was like yeah, I bought it! LOL

So whatever fits the marketing plan should stay and if it doesn't and it simply establishes a presence, that's fine, but the real estate agents whose EVERY POST in their personal feed is their listings get unfollowed by me. And I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

I have done nothing but post listings on Twitter for YEARS . . . and lately I have discontinued that even . . . if I have time I do it and if not, I don't.

Active rain is my social media and maybe it brings me business, I have no clue BUT the reason I don't promote myself more is that I already have far more business than I want at this stage of my life! 

If someone doesn't use social media for business doesn't necessarily mean they are against it. Some folks have a thriving business without it.

The wide road doesnt appeal to me...The path that speaks to me does....

For our clients in the high end sector, it is a colossal waste fo time.  The psychographic is not hanging out there.  If my clients were selling some gadget or any other kind of stuff from $9.99 to 1999.99, I would be all for it.  It depends on where you are in the scheme of things...A

I see many try to use it but do not use it right. Other waste a huge amount of money and they could easily do it themselves. 

We do use it - more as a way to get information on new listings out to other agents and to let our sellers know we are doing this.

If people aren't on social media - they won't be here reading this Q.

I have resisted the urge to spend the time necessary to pursue an effective social media marketing strategy.

Larris I did since it first started. But I lost  the desire to keep plugging it out. Plus our SOI has been our clients and business associates for years.  Now FB is strictly for fun.....of which my clients love to play with me.  So it's all good.

Doing what works best for ones market etc makes sense to me.

Many of us lack social media marketing expertise.

Like Candice A. Donofrio said, it all depends on your demographic and what works.  I have seen zero out of social and far more out of traditional advertising.  Most of us have ad blockers installed to block ads and many of us are waking up to the invasiveness of social media's tracking of your every move via advertising pixels, phone apps and are blocking them.

Agents who are past the stage of being classified 'survivor' have found what is working for them and if it's not broke, it don't need Fix'n.

Most agents on Active Rain have been in business more than 10 years which means the majority of their business is REFERRAL FROM PAST CUSTOMERS. They know tending the garden you planted is more efficient than attempting to grow the faddish HOPS in Florida, Being a CBD advocate in suburbia or trolling the oceans of 'haven't mets' not knowing the baggage they will bring with them.

I exploit the advertising opportunity such as FB messenger.
I regularly participate on 5 FB groups so I see value for a purpose.
If I were a newbie, I would think there is little choice but to get in bed with the devil...for a season. Then, the newbies business will mature into a referral business and the circle is complete.
And I know, as you should also, that Trump is not the threat to democracy but those who control the information the public consumes IS the threat to Democracy. Russia, China, Iran, N.Korea, Turkey  all know this and they control the information.
Facebook, Twat and Google control the information the public sees on their screen and we know who controls what is called media.

I don't use it that much.  I find FB groups very useful (in my niche).  But, i find SEO is a much better use of my time w/ higher ROI, followed by Pinterest which is a visual search engine.

I do not use it because my business does not need it.  I am not against it or anyone using social media for their business. 

I am against all the censorship that is taking place on FB. 

Use what works in your market and don't have others persuade you that it is does not work without trying. Time spent on a social platform if it gives a return and cross pollinates, feed it to bolster your marketing. Many times the "experts" who say no no did not use it correctly or never put the time into looking into would it work if done correctly. Learning curve, like a real estate license. You have the ticket, you need the experience to learn how to fly in the list and sell.

I use it, but little "action" frm it. It is a great way to get my rental listings rented, but low performance for sales and leads. It's window dressing for my store though, I use it.

Retirement is my answer!

This is Social Media, I think we are all using it.
