Shake it don't break it Caroline Gerardo . At Monday's ZOOM Rotary club meeting, Sen Angus King (Independent) told group he gets 3000 to 4000 letters, calls, emails, texts a week. He says they work to shape legislation. Let your elected officials know your take and why on positions so they can develop their stand to make your voice count.
King also said back in 1970's when working during other Maine Senator's terms in Washington DC terms (Bill Hathaway, Bill Cohen, Ed Muskie, Margaret Chase Smith) ... everyone got to know each other. Families did things together, pot lunch suppers , holidays, church events, lots happened involving others elected as public servants to make a difference. You lived in DC and families grew up together. Today you are only there in Washington from Monday to Thursday and fly home. So busy and no interaction and D or R majority leaders decide what bill does or does not get heard.
Start small from within networking. He's getting ribs from a smoke shop, adding potato salad, beans and other goodies and invites groups of senators and their families if they are there over to get to know each other. One Senator lives on a boat in the Potomac and invites a few Senators over at a time to get to know each other so they can compromise and shape great legislation that is actually from all sides of the aisle around you.
When you know who you work with and where they are coming from for a background, good things happen. Just like here in AR, civility, kindness, and taking the time to avoid snarky builds unity and direction.

You are right on that Carolyn. I don't understand why they need to charge it anyway? Greed?

Everyone should be emailing, or calling their Senators and Representatives -- local and national. We need to let them know if we agree or disagree with bills coming across their desks. In fact sometimes there are so many bills our representatives rely on their constituents reponses on how to vote. . . make sure you know your local and national senators and representatives and be in touch with them all the time.
